New laws for WA cray fisherman from 1 December

Western Australian recreational cray fishermen are reminded that new rules came into effect on 1 December 2008.

The new laws apply to fishing in the West Coast bioregion which starts at Black Point, east of Augusta, and finishes at the Zuytdorp cliffs, north of Kalbarri and require:

  • a daily bag limit of 6;
  • a daily boat limit of 12 where two or more licence holders are on board; and
  • a possession limit of 24 per person which includes those found at a person's residence.

The new laws have been released in response to record low numbers of juveniles found in their usual inshore nurseries.
