Shrieking with glee - 200kg Goliath Grouper in a Kayak

Have you ever looked back on a video of yourself catching a fish, and thought “I’m sure that fish was bigger than that!” Have you ever looked back and thought “Geez, I squealed like a girl when that monster popped up!”.

This guy is going to think the same things when he sees this video.

While fishing from his Kayak off Sanibel in Florida, Jon Black hooked what could only be described as a MONSTER Grouper. He battled with it for while before it broke the surface, revealing itself as a 2m long Goliath Grouper, a bottom dwelling species known in the area and a protected species in most places of the world. By their estimates, it weighed in the ballpark of 200kgs, although they didn’t actually weigh it due to the fish being protected. Consider that Mr Black was in a kayak too, so it’s no wonder he didn’t get it on board! What he did get, was a broken rod, and a hilarious clip of him shrieking with glee as the giant goliath grouper breaks the surface and almost pulls him overboard.They also managed to get the fish to shallow water where they could measure it properly, deducing the weight based on their measurements of the fish.
