WA regional rec anglers reminded about new licence

Recreational fishers in regional Western Australia are reminded that from Tuesday 2 March they will need a new licence if fishing from a powered vessel.

The new licence has an annual cost of $30 which will contribute to the monitoring and management of the State's fisheries.

It will also help in the establishment of a database of boat-based recreational fishers, which will be used to more accurately estimate the number of people fishing and where they are fishing.

Recreational fishers using a powered boat to undertake any general fishing activities anywhere in the State, would need the new licence. Kayaks, dingies or other vessel without a motor won't need a licence.

Anglers without a licence will still be entitled to fish from a boat so long as they are in the company of someone who does and they only fish within the licence holder's bag limit.
