Kiteboarders Celebrate Christmas at the beach in every state
It's somewhat of a tradition for kiters - Xmas at the beach!
This year it was no different, when 1pm struck so did the seabreeze, and boy was it a good one! 22-25 knots from the North East, and if that's not the best Christmas present ever, then man! You must have got some good presents this year. Even up north in Townsville they got some wind for the afternoon, although lighter than Brisbane and the Gold Coast, it was still perfectly ridable, and the perfect way to work off that christmas lunch.
There must be something about Christmas day that attracts wind to Australian states, last year we saw 30 knots from the south east blow across the QLD coast, while Sydney kiters also got an afternoon session in with similar conditions. This year, it was no different with every single metro area getting a seabreeze, (or in Sydney's case a Southerly) - each one perfectly suited for kiteboarding.
Sydney had a great Southerly that blew all day, kiters from both the city and northern beaches were riding all day, having strategically planned beachside barbecues at their favourite spot. The bay was packed with kiters, all day long thanks to the early start to the wind.
Perth saw a light seabreeze roll through late in the afternoon after a hot 38' day, those who's stayed off the beer at lunch took to the water, getting a good few hours in before dark, especially for those on the northern side of the city.
Adelaide had the same, with the perfect seabreeze brewing all afternoon, from 1pm it was on for young and old! Chistmas day meant that the beaches were busy with general public, but we heard that there was even a bit of swell around for those who could find a spot on the beach!
Melbourne, was exactly the same as the rest of the East coast, with a Seabreeze over 20 knots from 1pm. What's going on! How can everywhere in Australia have wind! Ewan Jaspan had a great ride at his local spot, nailing a few new moves and calling it a classic christmas day.
Even Darwin saw some yellow arrows, it's not often you hear from the guys up in the NT, but we're sure someone up there got a ride in, even if it was on some light wind gear.
So that's it! Yeah, we missed Hobart, but there's so many spots it's hard to explain. The WHOLE of Australia had a windy afternoon on Christmas day! Call it coincidence, call it a present from the fat man himself, or call it science (we are in the middle of summer after all). But no matter what you call it, nobody was complaining!
