Cowes-Torquay-Cowes International Offshore Powerboat Race - Royal Southern Member, Markus Hendricks, with crew members Simon Wood-Power and Eric Smilie, took overall honours in Cinzano Bianco on Sunday, 28 August, covering the 164.2 n.mile Channel course in a time of two hours 53 minutes 44 seconds at an average speed of 56.71 knots (65.26mph).

Originally designed by another Royal Southern Member, Don Shead, uncle of crew member Simon Wood-Power, and built in 1982, Hendricks' Cinzano Bianco won this same race in Cinzano colours in 1984 and 1985. On Sunday, Markus and his crew took the British International Harmsworth Trophy, the Beaverbrook Trophy, the Cougar Trophy and the Waynefleet Trophy amongst their haul of silverware.

In sea conditions that varied from benign to decidedly lumpy, they brought their 38 foot, 1450hp twin Ilmor powered CUV aluminium monohull home just nine seconds ahead of the Chinese entry, Powerboat Asia, of Martin Lai and Chun Kit Sui, after a race-long battle along the south coast, during which the lead changed several times. Third boat home, some 25 minutes adrift of the winner was the Fabio Buzzi designed RIB, Pippa, of Rob Gray, Mike Bontoft, Johnny Caulcutt and Stephen Hemsley.
