British RYA Circuit Powerboat Championships final round was held over the weekend of 24th and 25th September at Stewartby, Bedford. Reigning World F4 Powerboat Racing Champion Scott Curtis, aged 27 from Norwich, claimed the British RYA F4 title to compliment his 2011 World F4 title.
Heading into the fifth and final round of the Championship, having seen the ten contenders previously battle it out at Lancashire, Oulton, Broad, Bodymoor and Cardiff, Curtis was in a strong position with two rounds and second place under his belt, giving him an eight point lead over the rest of the field.
In top form and at the top his game Curtis went out for qualifying and once again secured the weekend's pole position. Heading into the heats he was unstoppable taking three out of three heat wins and winning the weekend's event to firmly put himself out of the reach of any of the other racers in the championship.
Paul Veares spectacularly flipped out of the second heat and with it crashed out of the championship fight, which left Brian Shulver to race himself into second for the weekend with Stuart King securing third.
Second place holder in the championship Matt Palfreyman was absent for the weekend - due to racing in the International F4-S series in China but had done enough earlier in the season to retain second in the British F4 Championship for 2011.
Stuart King's third place for the weekend saw him secure third in the championship overall.
The 2011 World and British F4 Champion, Scott Curtis, reflects on an awesome year: 'My main focus was the World F4 title again this year, it's the one I really wanted and I knew there'd be some very strong competition so I used the British Championship as my testing and practice ground for the World stage. Once that was secure and I was in with a chance for the British title as well I just decided to go for it and see what happened.'
Scott continued: 'In the past I've been in with the shot of one title or the other so to take two this year is an added bonus and really rewarding as the whole teams worked really hard. I'd like to thank my Dad, Sister Sarah, Carl and Pete for all their help and support.'
