'Rough and ugly' - that's the tip for the offshore racers The 2011 Australian Offshore Superboat Championships begin off the NSW city of Newcastle this weekend and if prevailing weather conditions do not improve the crews will be facing tough conditions. All 2010 Class champions are lining up to defend their titles. Obviously, weather and sea conditions look likely to play a major role. Race director Russell Embleton told me this afternoon (Wednesday) that conditions offshore were 'rough and ugly.'
