Hands up if you like this sleek new fibreglass runabout from Savage?

Called the 175 Bowrider, it's the sort of boat that's sure to have broad appeal with families because it's well priced, handily sized and versatile enough to be used for a variety of water sports.

Savage's in-house boat testers say the 17-footer handles tight corners and choppy water confidently and provides a smooth ride for all aboard.

The standard 135hp MerCruiser sterndrive delivers a top speed of 62.4kph at 4900rpm, drinking fuel at the rate of 45lt/hr at this speed - that equates to 1.38km/ltr at top speed.

At a cruising speed of about 35kph at 3000rpm, fuel consumption reduces to 16.7lt/hr, so you should get around five hours' play from the 85-litre subfloor fuel tank.

The hull apparently responds well to the throttle and sits high on the water, making it surprisingly buoyant and comfortable.

The power steering, tilt-steering helm and folding seats with adjustable sliders make the 175 Bowrider perfect for any type of water sport, and there's seating for a family of seven.

The swim platform is integrated into the top deck mould for a more streamlined appearance and improved structural integrity.
