12 Towers Ocean Paddle Festival
If you’re anywhere near the Gold Coast on the 21st and 22nd of February, get down to Kirra and watch as the worlds best stand up paddlers set off on a journey past 12 of the iconic Gold Coast lifeguard towers, around a buoy and into Burleigh Beach, a 14km downwind sprint.
Adding to the excitement, this year will feature a short course, only 5km from Currumbin to Burleigh for those paddles who want to experience world class racing on the Gold Coast, without the grueling marathon in between. This short course is for stand up paddlers only, and is open to anyone!
Current World Champion - Titouan Puyo won the event last year, and will be back in 2015 to defend the Twelve Towers title. But he won’t have an easy run, because hot on his heels will be local paddlers Travis Grant, Jake Jensen and Paul Jackson. Showing Titouan how it’s done, will be Karla Gilbert for her third title in a row, she’s stood atop the podium twice before, and with her current track record is in great standings to win this year. She’ll be chased down by (or chasing) Angie Jackson and Terrene Black, plus the international girls who have heard about the race and are keen to join in on the action.
Check out their website for more information, and get down there to watch it live if you can. The 2015 Twelve Towers Ocean SUP Race is going to be massive this year!
