A week in shoes of a Starboard SUP R&D Guy.

Life would be boring for an R&D guy who spends their entire life in a shaping room....

Scott McKercher has been around the Aussie windsurfing scene since forever.

When Stand Up Paddling started, he was there, and luckily already working for Starboard with their windsurfing shapes. So when the time came to get into SUP, it didn’t take long and Scott began working on SUP shapes for Starboard, which he’s still doing today.

So what does an R&D guy get up to? Lots of travelling, that’s for certain. In this video we get to sample a few days in the life of Scott McKercher, R&D guy for Starboard Stand Up Paddling (and Windsurfing).

With the Starboard HQ in Thailand, it provides a fantastic cultural epicentre for the brand, with stand up paddlers from all over the world flying in to sample what life in the factory looks like.

Of course life would get boring for an R&D guy who spends their entire life in a shaping room, not to mention the shapes probably wouldn’t improve much! So to test his new creations, Mr McKercher gets to fly wherever he wants (almost). Testing new 10’0’s? Head for a slow point break. Down to a 8’10? Beachies at home in Perth. Hydrofoiling race board? Well he didn’t test it out himself in the video, but someone did!!

Check out the video below to see some amazing stand up paddle surfing from Scott McKercher, Starboards R&D guy from Perth.
