Do Not Follow Beau Nixon - Go on a SUP Adventure.

You can go on a SUP adventure, just like this one!
Beau Nixon is inviting you on another adventure down an Aussie icon, this time the Hunter River in NSW, paddling more than 50km in three days.

His blog, titled ‘Do Not Follow’, plays on that intrinsic desire to go against what is asked. So when he says ‘do not follow’, he actually means ‘read my blog for a how-to-guide on how to follow me!

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

This quote is echoed many times around Beau’s blog, where he invites you to take your own journey using Stand Up Paddling as a means of transport, not just following his step-by-step guide, but blazing your own trail.

It’s a great concept, and along with the fantastic video illustrating the journey, Beau provides a complete guide on taking your very own stand up paddling adventure in his footsteps.

His latest one, spanning three days will take you from Maitland, to Newcastle, a journey of 54kms and is designed to be done solo, or a group of paddlers. He does it by train, leaving his car in Newcastle (the finish point) and taking a train to Maitland where he’ll start his journey. With an inflatable stand up paddle board taking public transport is a cinch, and avoids any awkward entrances when trying to book into a local hotel for the night.

Check out this extract from his guide.

DAY 2

• Morpeth to Raymond Terrace, Hathaway Bed & Breakfast

DISTANCE
• 18km / 11miles

ACCESS SITES
• Boat Ramp, Morpeth • Boat Ramp / Wharf, Raymond Terrace

ACCOMMODATION
• Hathaway Bed & Breakfast

NOTES
• Raymond Terrace is quite a historic town and the old main street, King St, is now a quiet back-street and lovely to check out. This is where the marriage trees are.
• The paddle is beautiful from Morpeth, as the river widens and the Williams River joins the Hunter at Raymond Terrace.

Don’t just follow Beau though! Take his advice and dream up your own stand up paddling adventure. Grab a mate or two, pack your boards, some clothes and a couple hundred bucks cash, get in the car (or train) and go!

Check out his blog here for the full guide, more pictures and news on Beau’s upcoming travels.
