Experience SUP at the King of the Cut

Did you miss the King of the Cut event in WA last weekend? It was Australia’s biggest and best downwind run, with over 80 paddlers surfing their way up the WA coastline including some big names from overseas! Don’t worry if you did miss it, because Matty Holder from Reflex Films have just released the report video, which is almost as good as being there.

Ride along in the chase boat behind Beau O’Brien, Travis Grant, Jake Jensen, Matt Nottage and Paul Jackson as they battle for the lead. Conditions are perfect with the reliable Fremantle Doctor (that’s the seabreeze in WA for those of you wondering) pushing them downwind at a decent rate, with some little runners the whole way to give the paddlers arms a break, and to push them off their boards occasionally.

Drift back in the pack past Angie Jackson (Queen of the Cut!) and check out how the mortals are doing, look closely and you can see the makings of some up-and-coming pro paddlers in amongst the fleet, and spot the men and women competing in the over 40’s and 50’s divisions.

Then watch as the stand up paddlers cross the finish line. There’s hugs and high fives all round, meanwhile the kids act as board caddies, three of them picking up a single stand up paddle board and it up the beach.

With more than 80 paddlers this year, 30 of which in the professional division, the King of the Cut is set to be HUGE next year. Some are saying in the stand up paddling forums that numbers might even double in 2015, so put the date in your calendar and get over to Perth for one of the worlds best downwind races, the King of the Cut, on the 5th December 2015
