How to make a hydrofoil completely irrelevant. Or is it?

The whole point of a foil is to make choppy water; silky smooth. So what's the point of taking it out to a tidal bore?

Ludovic Dulou has a new foil, and like everyone who gets a new foil - he REALLY wanted to use it. The bore was running, so he grabbed a mate and the boat, towing in to a completely glassy wave and riding it effortlessly - a meter above the surface. But why foil? This could actually be an interesting development in long distance wave surfing!

Already tidal bores are handy for setting distance surfing records, because they break so consistently and for such long distances. The problem, is that they're not very powerful so longboards or SUPs are usually the board of choice. There's one thing more efficient than a longboard or SUP however, and that's a foil.
