No matter the self dealing that is introduced in the next 4 years, America be fine. Just look at how well South Africa is doing after the kleptocracy of Jacob Zum

To be fair, there's a lot of catastrophising about a 2nd Trump term.
And he has the opportunity (even mandate) actually implement all the horrid things his Mates want.

Whether that actually happens is yet to be seen.

But he has a track record of walking back his extreme policies/promises just to keep as much support as possible.

Like all politicians I am sure he finds that its one thing to promise all sorts of stuff, but another to actually achieve them.

I wonder if the wall with Mexico will start construction again. Gotta keep those pesky Mexican fruit pickers out - Not only are they 'eating the dogs' and 'eating the cats' but they are picking the fruit and working in the hotels.

My brother owns a business in Johannesburg. If I give you his email address would you write to him and tell him how well it's doing?

Too much division in the U.S. for them to be great again. Can't see Trump uniting America any time soon. Lucky for some, unlucky for more.

Hate to agree with mycrappyname, but America is way too divided now for it get better one way or the other. No matter who points it which way, the opposing sides gonna hate.

There's been way too much emphasis placed on which way an individual swings politically. Everyone is either "far right" or "far left" and all that is needed for that analysis to be made in the court of public opinion is for them to say something political, or even analytical of one side or the other.

I've seen articles lately that say Francis ****uyama saw it all coming in the essay and book "The End Of History" in 1992. So I'm reading it now.

In describing the shallow celebrity culture, the essential emptiness, of the habitat of the last man, ****uyama had a particular example in mind. He went to the same individual for illustration when looking for an archetype of megalothymia - who else but 'a developer like Donald Trump'. ****uyama didn't predict that it would be that very individual who would crash through the comforts of the end of History, turning the certainties of the post-Historical world upside down. But he got closer than most.

Do you have a version of that in English?

Most of your "jokes" in the funny images are not funny to me. I guess senses of humour are different, so I am not going to complain.

Usually they look like typical memes sent to you from other 'funny' people, and they are based on something about the US. Sometimes I struggle to understand what they are about, but I guess you need to be an American to understand them or someone that thinks they are American.

So what was the important info about Albo and Dutton? Got a meme for it or do you have to write stuff (jokes?)?

I worry that you think that 'the left can't meme' as if its something important. Sure, anyone can take the piss out of anyone. It's easy. I guess some people just don't sink that low. Some of the memes that you and others post here about US politicians are just offensive and not really funny unless you already hate that person, but then you have got to worry why you hate a US politician if you are an Australian...

Your last Cat meme in the 'funny images' thread wasn't 'funny'.

Why do you think it's 'funny'? What is 'funny' about it?

So which policies are you nervous about?

I reckon the American elections are based around personally and less about policy.

The world isn't going to end (again).

There is some virtue in turning off annoying ratbags. The only time you see them is when they're quoted.

Hah. You are reading at the level of a toddler. Good on you, you are getting better!

You seem to be talking to the wrong person. I don't care about US politics and any mention of it here from me is usually "why do you care about US politics when you live in Australia?"

So, why are you talking about US politics? It's not an us and them race, especially when you are an Australian. It is a mistake for everyone to think that if their team won that the other people don't matter.

Neither is an executive who won't be held in check by Congress or the Supreme Court

Must be alot of politicans, journalists, economic experts and celebrities around the world, incluiding Jim Chalmers and Albo here, who are secretly extremly glad Trump won.

Now they have somebody to blame for cost of living, inflation, economic woes and all their own failings.

Seems kinda ironic that the media and experts all got the election results very, very wrong, yet now they all know exactly what a Trump presidency will bring.....

Why should Congress or the Supreme Court hold the president "in check" ?

I'd suggest Congress should hold him to account and the Supreme Court should uphold the law, but executive decisions and political policies are for the democratically elected President to determine and the electorate to judge, not for political opponents who lost an election to be able to override.

Can Dutton do a Trump? Unlikely - a populist needs to be popular.

Judging on recent history it won't be "we" that gets rid of Albo.

It will be some faceless factional backroom operators in the ALP, chasing a safe senate seat or a highly paid, yet risk free, superannuation board position for one of their mates.
