New studies now show that smoking in Aus is no longer the biggest killer and burden on the average tax payer, now its the aussie obesity problem that the average aussie is paying waay higher health insurances to cover these pie loven couch potatos
Unless you are well over 7 foot tall, or have a health condition that prohibits your metabolism, and are in the 90 to 100kg weight range or above, you are in the obese range that pushes the every day healthy aussies health insurance premiums through the roof.
Time to get off the computer forums Australia, get out doors and enjoy life, good food and set a good example for your kids and grandkids, no matter how old you are, its not to late to get out and enjoy the benefits of being fit and healthy and not adding to the obesity problem in Aus.
And hey, you wont need that bigger kite or sail to get out in the lighter winds with ya other mates.
Thats rubbish theres a lot of football players running around that weigh heavier than those figures and are way fitter than some 70 kg weak arse folks. I mite take up smoking again to help adjust those figures.

Yes that's correct, but they are purposely bulked up like that, they are talking about the average aussies, not the athletes.
And the 70kg weak arse mates of yours wont have massive pressure on their hearts, knees, backs and major organs like the obese 100kg folk do, which are the major claims made that are causing the high insurance costs we pay.
That's why Medicare should come with a discount for people who can be bothered to pay a bit of attention to their own health.
A check up at tax time would be all that it takes. But too many fat activists would cry discrimination for that to ever get enacted.

Fatavists.
So you're skinny are you Lotofwind?
Still won't help if your girlfriend is fat and putting pressure on your major organs.
I saw two policemen in NZ that were almost as round as they were tall. I was tempted to give them some lip and see if even I could out run them...but they had a really fit looking WPC with them...
Had a brain wave the other day.....
Not sure we are meant to eat everyday.....so now,one day per week I go very easy, say 500 - 1000 calories.
A salad and a few cups of tea.

Here's a new idea, try doing that for 2days! Sorry sarcasm is lost thru a keyboard
Google 5and2. Lots of Drs and uni studies to back it up.

Loto Why wouldn't you put your comment in the fat shaming thread which is literally right underneath this one??

I plead guilty to this. I weigh 100kgs and am only 5'8.
My knees do hurt a bit too. After an hour at the wake park, my knees are copping a workout and the next day I feel it. My triceps and back muscles take a hit too.
I wonder if I really would be healthier if I got down to 80kgs and took up smoking. It sounds a bit boring though.
Really..?
That's why we have high insurance costs..?
Yeah, nothing to do with private health insurance companies wanting to make a profit or anything.
Its the people! The private profit motivated insurance companies are just the poor innocent victim and luckily they are around to support us

Those doctors and studies backing up Pete's own idea will just serve to freak him out. Time for better tinfoil PM33.
Saying you need to be over 7 ft tall to weigh in at 100kgs and not be in the obese category is bs as this does not account for people with muscles. I am 6'3 and 100kg and am definitely not obese

Most humans have billions of brain waves every millisecond, but I suppose that's a start.

It also shows a lack of ability with arithmetic. Obesity is commonly defined by using BMI. That is weight (in kg) divided by square of height (in metres). But weight goes up with volume, so should be compared with the cube of height if you want to get a number which stays constant for people the same shape no matter their height.
BMI was originally based on military recruits ie average height young men 178cm tall. Since it should be a cube, not a square, the range should vary by approximately the same % as the height varies from 178cm.
At 190cm, the BMI range should be 7% higher. So 20-25 shifts to 21.5-27. With a BMI of 27 you are at the top of the corrected healthy range.
The best way to see if you are obese is to use a mirror. If you can suck in your guts without being able to see the bottom of your rib cage you are either obese or wearing clothes.
The human body is quite amazing. It can adapt to many variable thrown at it. For example, have you ever wondering how a person who weighs 130Kg but is only of average height of 1.78M can walk around? Lets say the correct weight is 80Kg for that height, the extra 50Kg is a hell of a lot of extra to carry around. Just imagine you are carting two 25-Litres buckets of water all day ! Is that why Sumo wrestlers are very strong because they are used to carrying the extra slabs all day ?
If you can suck in your guts without being able to see the bottom of your rib cage you are either obese or wearing clothes.
Or potentially both. I know I am wearing clothes right now but I'm not sure if I'm obese. I don't expect taking my clothes off to stand in front of the mirror is acceptable office etiquette (especially when working from a client office!) so I guess I'll have to wait until i get home for this test.
Another potential result of this test is that you're pregnant...
The biggest tax burden?
Billion dollar planes. Billion dollar subs and Billion dollar companys' with off shore tax structures.
I'm sure there's more...
Hi Lotofwind - good topic
I believe three entities are behind this, but there's more to it than just that.
"Big Pharma" "Big Food" "Big Medic" (and as a sideshow, "Big Fitness & Health")
"Big Pharma" is a trillion dollar industry today providing pharmaceuticals.
It needs "Big Medic" to prescribe these pharmaceuticals to keep the wheels churning.
"Big Medic" also needs to provide dietary guidelines that keep people coming back to "Big Medic"
"Big Food" needs to provide the dubious nutrition that requires people to go to "Big Medic".
Talk about "conflicts of interest"
What I can't determine/understand is why any individual lets themselves go so as to join the merry-go-round of dietary stupidity.
PS: Maybe "dubious nutrition" is designed to make you keep eating "dubious nutrition" by overriding the "satiety gene"

Because the choices and means are there. We are an affluent society which is becoming effluent !
Uh oh....cats out the bag now.
What's your superior thoughts on sugar Mr Jupiter?
Got an axe to grind, LittleMan? Moderation is my superior thought.

You forgot Big Organic, the half-trillion dollar (US only) industry providing anti-science rhetoric and often over-priced inferior product.
What totally blows my mind is the weight loss industry its worth trillions yet it has a 99%failure rate .
What other industry could survive at such a level of failure & still be a growth industry.
Apart from governments.
Social engineering can be held responsible to a large degree. People have become obsessed with food. One only needs to look around the shelves in a supermarket and to observe the behavior of shoppers to appreciate that food has evolved from a necessity to a hobby.
Everywhere you look people are stuffing their gobs. Compare our food habits to those of a third world country and you have the answer to obesity.
I have posted this before but this guy, for me, is a major inspiration. In the interview he talks about how taste is a matter of conditioning. He also mentions that diet is a highly sensitive subject which many people will not broach.
I thought that heart disease was the biggest killer.
plenty skinny fit healthy eating peeps die from heat disease.
