Yeah osaka 3, miyajima island (visit horoshima) 1 night, kyoto 3, tokyo 3, tsugaike (hakuna) 11.
Will probably do the aquarium in osaka. Thats about all ive worked out so far. Kyoto we have some super authentic japanese house.
Just looking to get a bit off the beaten track. Visit some seaside villages and any other not so run of the mill experiences of which we will still be doing plenty

I go every year for a bit of a slide down the slopes.

Where are you skiing? I can offer some advice around some of the ski areas.

Don't shout drinks to the expat girls in any of the hostess bars in Roppongi or your bill could be more than your airfare.

Harajuku is a pretty cool place full of different/cool young people. Lots of markets

Freak yourself out and visit the redlight district in Shinjuku at night - pretty sure its not dangerous....

Cool electronics stores in Shibuya

Upmarket shopping in Ginza

Fish markets in Tokyo for sashimi

Just got back last week.

Team Lab planets in Tokyo is awesome. Best thing we did .

Depending on kids ages, Disney is good.

Nikko just outside Tokyo is worth the trip too.

Tsugiake hakuba

Hakuba is a fair destination, but limited for any sort of worthwhile daytrip to take a break even with a car, but if you are just skiing it has plenty of terrain to keep you occupied. Tsugiake is a good resort, but a fairly sleepy village. Don't expect much to do at night.

For a change in scenery Itiogiwa Seaside Resort is 30mins away, but that is about it.

On the way there or returning via Nagano then Togakushi area is well worth a visit. One of my favourite piste resorts in Japan and home of the Ninja's. You would need a car though.

Most of my trips I stay in Akakura Onsen, Myoko and we simply travel from there to any of the 15 or so resorts within 90mins depending on conditions. We don't even ski the local resort there much any more, but like the area to stay in. Also have Nagano and Joetsu within a short drive as well and we visit them for shopping and resturants regularly.
