Store in Victoria has just been hit by a brazen gang of thieves.

Last week in San Francisco a gang looted a store to the tune of 300K.

Slap on the hands if they get caught.

These attacks are common thing now in the U.S.

Inevitable breakdown in society if this continues.

That looks horribly like a screen grab from a television station. You know, those mainstream media, propaganda producing folk that everybody has to avoid if we wish to thinking critically.

Common in US states with "progressive" governments like California, which now basically pay and feed people to be homeless.

Not so much in the other states. You won't see this in Florida for instance.

Do a quick google search of looting, smash and grab in Florida, it's happening there too. Little to do with being progressive and plenty to do with a growing divide between rich and poor.

From what I have read the progressive governments in California have all but wiped out the middle class leaving only the woke corporate big tech silicon valley type elitist class and the poor. Aspirational people (middle class) that engage in small business and are the engine room and biggest employer of economies have either gone broke or packed up and moved elsewhere.

Sounds like a socialist utopia hey with equality for all....Just need to remember the pigs are more equal than the rest of course

Believe what you will, blame whoever you want but the seeds of how the US operates are centuries old. Best summed up in my mind by this dialogue/quote from the movie Killing them softly.

My friend, Jefferson's an American saint because he wrote the words, "All men are created equal." Words he clearly didn't believe, since he allowed his own children to live in slavery. He was a rich wine snob who was sick of paying taxes to the Brits. So yeah, he wrote some lovely words and aroused the rabble, and they went out and died for those words, while he sat back and drank his wine and ****ed his slave girl. This guy wants to tell me we're living in a community. Don't make me laugh. I'm living in America, and in America, you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business. Now ****ing pay me

There is a general increase in shoplifting across the board over the last few years. That is an economic thing related to strong inflation and is not what is being referred to, nor does it necessarily reflect a wealth divide, but an increase in those below the poverty line or homeless. The only economic metric that counts is whether the poorest are richier than they were. How much wealth someone creates for themselves is irrelevent apart from the hard fact they generally also make society around them richer as well.

Irrespective, the instances of blatent walk in, load up a cart full of stuff and walk out without being stopped is happening in progressive cities only, where coincidentally large retailiers are also simply shutting down thier stores in response. The main reason for this is that the DA's in those cities simply refuse to prosecute the behaviour.

The only instances of open looting in Florida has been during natural disasters and was dealt with harshly.

A good thing about being a person, as opposed to a Monkey or any other animal for that matter, is that you can learn stuff from others experience, you don't actually have to experience something yourself to learn about it.

"Back in South Florida, some stores CBS4 contacted were on high alert, adding extra security measures. Some even locking doors until a guard authorizes access. Hayes said that's just the beginning. "Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County have some of the highest theft, fraud and violence rates in the nation," he explained. "So you're going to see Miami-Dade, you're going to see the other law enforcement agencies, FDLE at the state level, putting out notifications. The state attorney general now has a taskforce to tackle the problem and this is before some of these most recent blatant attacks."

Nice graph, but not as sexy as "YOUTH CRIME!!!" headline. Facts are boring, people want rage-ertainment, victims to blame, blah blah blah.

Oh please, that was during the nationwide George Floyd protests. 52 people were prosectued for serious crimes following that incident.

I am refering to the brazen theft occuring in other states fuelled by the lack of will of DA's to actually charge the criminals. They do it because they know no one will stop them. Florida is not immune from crime, but you will be hunted down and charged.

California declares shoplifting under about $900 just a misdemeanour. Only above that amount is a felony.

Many, if not most, US states have similar laws.

Shoplifting is still illegal, but offenders under the dollar threshold are likely to just get a slap on the wrist and sent on their way.

So you made those judgements based on your experience in progressive states like California as well as Conservative states like Florida? Or are you just going with the Fox News narrative?

Out of personal curiosity Philn, how long have you lived in FL and has the place changed much during your time there? Most my time was in the late 90s in Miami-Dade & Broward. Went to SurfExpo/Orlando twice a year for a decade. Always quite liked the place but not enough wind for me to consider living there.

Would it be reasonable to assume the war in Ukraine is not very nice or would one need to experience it before making such a judgement.

Would it be reasonable to judge that Climate Change is not effecting Perth, as PM33 hasn't experienced it, or should we just go with the climate emergency narrative on the news ?

Or would it be reasonable to judge that the argument can change depending in which thread it is made based on remery's narrative ?

My impression of Florida in general is that it is like Queensland with a few areas of high crime like the Gold Coast, but some nice cities elsewhere. That is only based on a few visits though.

I always figured its proximity to the drug routes made it prone to organised crime.

I am going on the prevalance of these sort of crimes in certain certain cities and the associated closure of large retail stores that are the target in those cities only.

There are other factors such as declining trade, but it is significantly centered in Progressive cities and the cause is likely the same.

I chatted to some DEA guys who turned up to the dock in a pursuit boat with six 300 HP Mercury engines. I asked how fast it went and the agent replied, "Were not allowed to say."

The problem with the 900 dollar rule is they can steal up to the amount and then just move to a different store.

The end result is many small businesses will not be viable anymore.

Inflation will rise and the public will be further demoralized.
