I probably can't here it because of my constant tinnitus, although, the Mortdale train sheds do sometimes wake me at night.

Theories behind The Hum phenomenon reported by only some people in Sydney and around the world

Shouldn't that be 'across' the world ?

Anyways, I'm betting it is the noise of bitcoin mining. Maybe us sufferers should lodge a class action claim against bitcoin miners ?

Some autistic people can hear electricity as a hum. There are a lot of undiagnosed neurodivergent people around.

I like that the theory they are yet to explore is that it's internal, that's a pretty strong suggestion that all of them are loners. Hey mate, can you hear this?

Wouldn't be surprised if it's solar panel inverters, you just get used to ignoring them.

Get similar up in isolated hot towns which generally have a constant drone of airconditioners running, which you really notice their absence when there is a power blackout.

I have in-depth knowledge of this and I spent > $2000 on USELESS specialists + MRIs+ a bunch of probes + hearing tests + precision calibrated mics ....
If anyone is interest I can expand on these.

Bottom line is in my case it is a low frequnecy tinnitus... but it sounds external... Drs are so f'ing useless... AC or moving air is the only relief and it only happens in doors.

Did I mention Drs are useless?

You reckon inverters are noisy? I can't hear mine, but my heat pump hot water system is a whole different kettle of fish. I'd hate to have a bedroom next to it. You'd think there would be regulations governing fan noise from them.

Tinnitus is a funny thing. Some people can have it very mildly and be sent into deep depression, while others can have a very severe case and not be bothered by it.

Mine is pretty loud and constant, but I ignore it and soon enough forget it's there....until I read the word Tinnitus, lol.

Probably just the noise of the cicadas in my garden reverberating around the world universe this morning.

Pretty sure I have the only cicadas in the world who are also jamming for a metal band whilst simultaneously operating jack-hammers for fun.

You know tinnitus can be relieved by intense focus on the sounds that you can hear and the knowledge that no sounds are missing. That's how I make mine go away, works quickly 95% of the time.

It's not as easy as a psychosomatic solution. The only thing that worked for me was Alpha GPC + Curcumin. Would only work for 2-3hrs with every dose and then stop being effective after ~1yr. It took me months to even discover the tenuos relationship w/ Choline. Specialist doctors over here don't even know what these are... seriously.

I haven't experienced the hum for about 5 months; it comes and goes. It seems more common in winter, and if I take a cold plunge, it can trigger it, indicating a temperature relationship too.

It started in September 2019. When it began, it was like a large truck idling down the road, audible only in my bedroom, not outside, not in the bathroom, living rooms, etc. So, I suspected a generator or truck causing resonance in my bedroom. I cycled around the neighborhood for clues, asked neighbors, and sought answers online, facing the usual ridicule like 5G, boats in the harbor, etc. I even contacted the council. At one stage, it became very loud and quite unbearable.

I read somewhere that inside the crater of Haleakala on Maui is one of the quietest places on Earth, with no wind, no life etc.

I remember thinking "Wouldn't it just sound like a cacophony of Cicadas?? (Or "the Hum" if that's your thing)"

My ears are still ringing from Tame Impala at Metro Freo 10 years ago...

Is there a vax you can get administered for the Hum ?

Or maybe you could pay more tax to solve it ?

No-one who ever had a labotomy reported persistent tinnitus, thus qualifying labotomy as an appropriate treatment for tinnitus.

I have to stop opening this thread. Every time I do, I become aware of my tinnitus for another 15 minutes.
