I don't think tobacco has been this cheap and as high quality as it is now since the late 80s.

I've been an on off smoker for most of my life. Government must be losing squillians in tax, how did they let this happen?

What are you talking about? Dodgy tobacco? 'Chop/chop' or whatever its called?

It has been around for ages, so is it more popular now?

It's been around, for a while, but was a fringe thing until maybe a year or two ago. Now it's mainstream, sold very openly in every city and regional town..... and its cheap.

A friend of mine recently sold these 4 empty packets of ciggies from the 80s for $60 on ebay.

That surprises me a bit. I worked with a Lebanese guy in the late 90s and he was always with a pouch of it. More recently an Asian colleague would always carry a namebrand pouch of tobacco, but clearly it was the cheap stuff.

Why haven't they caught these people? Surely most tabacconists sell it? Couldn't be too hard to track it down if its that easy to get, unless they are walking in with police uniform on.

I worked with a Dutch guy that was so cheap that he wanted to grow his own in his backyard. I wouldn't be surprised if he did either. Anything to save a few bucks.

Illegal tailor made cigarettes, come in exactly the same looking packets and cost around one third of the price of regular darts. The roll your own are cheaper again and come in pouches double the size. They are openly sold at all tobacco stores throughout Australia. In every suburb and regional town.

This stuff is sold openly? Surely not? Like any tax, governments want their share of the money, so they would have to crack down on this if it was so open?

There is a reason that they have the ATF in the USA. It is big money so they protect it.

Hey MSN

It seems your anecdote about the difference between a computer and FormulaNova might be appropriate again ??

It's not openly. It is under the counter. But it is an open secret.

They get bust quite regularly. Our local tobacconist sells the chop chop and packets. My ex smokes a brand called Eternal Happiness. No barcode.

It's a classic example as to why the war on drugs has failed. Strange though as to why it is not clamped down on. Revenue must be a concern.

Stop quoting Carantoc. The seabreeze filter is not that good at filtering static.

He doesn't even know what anecdote means. And he posts the usual crap, with hardly any thought behind it. But as long as the seabreeze hidden feature keeps working I don't care.

Why is it not an anecdote ?

I do believe that msn has actually engaged in the task first hand. At least once. And had the results he describes. So it isn't a theory or a contemplation or a catchphrase, it is an actual event(s) he is recounting.

I'll present this as evidence :
Read msn's first post in this very thread. Now read FN's third post in this thread.

Evidence that msn has punched the info in, but it clearly hasn't made it to the CPU and Japie and Carantoc have subsequenlty punched it in again, seemingly still to no avail.

The evidence of an anecdote is empirical, although admittedly not yet peer reviewed, or found guilty in a court of law.

That's right, Carantoc's usual crap - aka. 'the truth'.

And yep, Carantoc didn't put much thought behind it. Just had to post a link or two to the story that has repeatedly made front page news for the last few weeks / months and to which the OP has detailed their opinion.

What additional thought would you consider Carantoc should have made before answering your repeated question (which had already been answered several times) with a very simple, basic and clear response ?

Can't see it getting any better with the new laws.

Just to punch the facts in once for FN's benefit - if the laws pass (which they look certain to with labour and greens support this week) vapes will only be sold from pharmacies, but you won't need a prescription from 1st October.

Last time I checked a Pharmacy and a Tobaccanist were pretty well at the opposite ends of the spectrum.

pharmacy
noun
a shop or hospital dispensary where medicinal drugs are prepared or sold.
"the local pharmacy"
the science or practice of the preparation and dispensing of medicinal drugs.
"courses in pharmacy"

Is tobacco really a medicinal drug ? What are its medicinal benefits and has it been approved by the TGA ?

How many pharmacists are going to be happy selling vapes ? I can see 90% not selling them, but then there being an entire industry start up of dodgy pharmacists selling nothing but vapes.

Maybe FN needs multiple people to punch facts into him many times.

I do feel sorry for is Mother who I think was his Dads Cousin in Collie. If Froth Goth was around Collie in the 60s things may have panned out different for him.

Thank you. I have learned where Grandad jokes are born. The dad jokes that other dads remember.

I think I first heard this one in the late 80s, so I guess a lot of people haven't heard it so you can claim it as a new one.

Come on. You know the one thing that gets me annoyed is quoting of Crackandtalk's posts. That's why you keep doing it. The good news is that his opinions are really not that interesting still, but it still grates. The more I see the quotes though the more I realise that the quotes are empty space anyway.

I do feel that a lot of people want to punch me. Which is sort of weird. The guys want to punch me without speaking to me at all. The girls want to punch me once they know me. It seems to be 2/3 of women wanting to punch me, so I am not sure if its a problem or not.

Maybe I can adopt Crackandtalk's personality where people just avoid him?
