coloured contrails (for the balmy brigade)

National Park Village Sth Island NZ about noon.
I spied this in the sky, non of the locals had seen it before, nor had I.


After a few minutes it looked like this.


And then like this before it faded away.


My Brother in Law, thinks it's ice crystals doing a prism thing with the spectrum.

Sounds feasible, but has anybody got an expert opinion?

No expert, my recollection is it's contrail iridescence? Sun light shoots through water droplets/ice crystals creating the prism of colours available to those lucky enough to be in the right location.

Looks like a fairly typical thermite and flouride chemtrail mix. It can colour like that when the airplane gets too close to the dome.

so as it drifts lower away from the dome, the colour changes?

Only for a round dome where the light changes wavelength at low angles.
can't happen with a flat dome
