just reading about guy having closeup with big shark off Esperance and this is something Ive been thinking about for a long time, mind you never done any research on it.
Why do the majority of surfers, divers etc wear black suits?
dont they look more like seals etc?
Do sharks have colour sensitivity?
Would bright coloured wet suits be a deterant to sharks?
Or is it all based on the splashing of feet and arms of freaked out humans?
Many many years ago in Adelaide I went swimming on my own around midnight off Glenelg, I knew I had consumed too much booze and was in trouble swimming out to far. Now was it a dolphin that pushed me or was it something else that brushed by me..... either way it put me off swimming out deep ever since. Living in Pt Lincoln and being in my 60's I tried going shark cage diving a year ago to try overcoming the fear but messed my bathers.
Have you seen the movie "Dark Tide". Amazing footage. I wonder if it was all special effects or the real thing.

Looks like Tonz has soiled his shorts again. You have to learn some patience, its only been 10hrs since your post and some people still work.
Only a dickhead would go out and swim knowing they had consumed too much alcohol.
So do not be a dickhead and swim while you are pissed.
Hope that helps

The truth is, as much as coloured wet suits are a good idea and may in fact save your life, no one wants to look anything like the coloured lycra wearing cyclists brigade.
Red wetsuits were the thing during the 1980's, and I can't remember too many shark attacks from that era. But then again there were fewer whales cruising up and down the coast, and sharks were caught and killed. Oh wait, what have I said.....
the banded seas snake pattern as above guy on the left is nothing new. valerie taylor had one back in the 60's.
i say wear whatever. if you are GWS country and it wants you u are fxcked no matter what
Mulies, Herring, Tuna, Sailfish and Mackerel all have black and white stripes, and nothing ever eats them...
Before climbing in the zebra striped wettie slather yourself with hot chilli sauce.
Especially in your crack and japs eye
a collingwood or geelong supporter wearing cement shooz in strategic locations could do the trick
but like myusernam said, once you've seen a gws chomp at anchors, outboard props and channel markers etc, you realise a hungry gws is a hungry gws
Some people win lotto , some people get bitten by sharks , some people die in car accidents [regularly] . Don't think too much and enjoy the ride.
It will end soon enough , try to have a bit of fun with it
