Anyone know of any good foiling spots even up to Burrum Heads.
Would be looking at a caravan park short drivable distance.

Hi , Hope U R getting on the water - re-Hervey bay..
I am on Sunny Coast but these tips should help...
The last time I went there to kite I joined a crew going over to Fraser island.. Have included a trace of the distances etc..
2 had foils. a few surf boards - most had TT's - I did not foil then..
The shoreline is fairly tidal and flat - muddy in places with channels.
The modest exceptions I know of are south of Urangan pier towards the marina and Elliot Heads
Go to the QLD forum find the "Where to kite in SE Qld guide" if it does not launch a web link then cut and paste into a browser.
Open this. It is a google maps / earth setup
1st click on satellite view (bottom left)
2nd click on the sites North to South .. This starts slightly to the north of Hervey bay. My second suggestion Elliot Heads - Andrew Ward runs shop there - check shop link - but this requires access thru' Bundaberg or back roads via Doolbi - caravan park right there. A couple of years back the Queensland nationals where run there so fair few photos around.
3) choose site by ticking this takes you there and opens blurb on site.
4) The Urangan pier has a video link which is worth watching - you will get the idea of the low gradient shoreline
5) just south of Urangan the tide flow from Sandy straits powerfully - so channels are fairly close to shore - so gets deeper faster.
6) do not leave anything in the tidal zone when you go out it comes in faster than you think.
When I went we launched from Kite beach - carparks just there easy access... not far from marina (food shops?? need to be open!!) and aquarium.
Probably get more response in the Qld forum...
Had an absolute ball when went - but full on support setup - with lunch
Not sure if the whale season is going off yet but due to low tourist numbers - might be able to tie in boat support if you wanted to go over to the island!!
Let us know how you go
Cheers

Inskip Point between the mainland and Fraser Island is awesome in a south easterly. Strong currents though, depending upon tide.

Many thanks for above. I have to wait till 13 June for the Co Vid-- 250 K limit from home, so will go from there.
Hopefully the water temps are not overpowering then.
Woodgate also looks good.
I've been to Woodgate but not to foil. It seems like it would be pretty good foiling straight off the main beach. Theodolite creek inlet might be fun on a TT too, I enjoyed SUPing there with the kids.
I wouldn't recommend anywhere inside the sandy straights (Rainbow road to Maryborough) it's massively shallow & tidal, ex-laws took a holiday house a Poona all the time, you could launch off the beach at high tide and have a 1-2km walk back at low tide...
Thanks for the great tips AP.
Sorry to resurrect a possibly dead post.
There is a pretty solid group of foilers in the Bay.
On a high tide and a northerly next to the surf club is a good spot. You sit inside the big sandbank that runs across from the pier.
Similarly on an E or ESE and a high tide you can kite just to the western side of the pier. Not quite as much room however.
The best option on a S or E wind is to take a boat out and kite off the sand banks near Fraser.
There is a YouTube video titled Brian and Ben at Pelican that shows a couple of us out.
If anyone is up this way hit me up.
Ben
I lived there for a while and i regularly kited from pt vernon to the Urangan pier and across out to round island. Some crazy currents and wind there some times but good wind in summer. The life guards questioned me a couple of times saying it was swimming areas but I always stayed clear of flagged areas. Have fun!
