What's your opinion on the best POV for the GoPro while kiting?
So far I have used the chest harness mount a few times, but I find the angle too low and sometimes my kite harness would obstruct the view of the camera. Also it feels very static as it always looks in the same direction.
I don't use a helmet so helmet mount is not an option for me. However what about the head mount? Does it slip off too easy?
Alternatively perhaps a mouth mount? Is this comfortable?
nothing constructive to add, but mouth mount doesn't sound at all comfortable. All that generated spit washing back in yr face.
sounds an uncomfortable ride to demonstrate relaxation!
The best videos I have watched is with guys that put the GP on a short pole and freehand it and then tuck back into harness. This gives multiple POV shots.

The beast mount is a pretty good line mount. Like all of them there is a possibility of tangling the lines. Take care when rigging as when launching its easy for the rear lines to tangle on it when the kite is flipped over. Line mounts give good footage for spins and loops - also good for checking out your stylish grabs.
I like the footage from the fin mounts better but I have yet to find a good mount. I have a flymount but having seen the remains of a friends waterproof case (snapped on the backdoor joint - front half of the housing and go pro missing), I'm nervous about using it. A leash on the gopro isn't going to matter if the case splits.
The helmet cam mount is tricky to get right. Limited depth of field so your jumps never look as high as they feel on the day. Best for videoing footage of other people as you follow them around - although it can look a little shaky as you keep looking where you are going and then back to the person you are following
Going to try a shoulder mount. I suspect the angle just won't be all that great though.
Hi Kajo, my advice is to mix it up. Yes Mouth mount do exist, but buying a helmet just to put a mount on it is also a good option.
I agree with Piros that a short pole mount is the most versatile as you can point it in any direction you like not to mention your arm acts like a vibration dampener. It can be something as simple as a PVC pipe. You can also plant that pole and pass in front of it in shallow waters/beach. The downside of using a pole is you have to be pretty skilled and control everything with one hand, even water start with one hand, change direction, etc. Also if you follow-cam someone with it, you have to be dangerously close to that person to get footage that's any good.
Overall there is always a lot of trial and error involved in getting really good footage, and so many little issues like fog and dried salt water films on the lens that are so annoying.
I also find a huge difference with the latest GoPro 5 black and the new Xiaomi Yi 4k+ who both have great multi-axis electronic image stabilization and high FPS, it makes older generation action footage look pretty crap...

This one will be made in Australia and will be colour coded for fool proof safety line attachment.
Good replies. Is anyone still using the old kite strut mount or is that too far away compared to a line mount?
I've got a wrist mount and was going to use it on the strut next time I head out to test it.

I ve bought the line mount, but looking at setting up fin mount and strut mount and then blend in edit for my own amusement.
Most likely alternating cameras over diff sessions. Unless I find some real cheapie cameras delivering good 1080P???
The strut mount view is a bit far away but I still think its a good perspective when blended into video.

Just looking at design, if you were able to add a expanding/contracting spring load bridge across the top it would stop chance off back lines getting caught in there.

Good idea but I think it would be in the way of the lens on the session models, will have a look at it.

That's an easy fix just wanted to make it tool less camera attachment

Awesome Dean, Long range of these cameras getting so much better with detail. How far would drone of been from kiting action? And is it being piloted or are you using some sort gps tracking

Im still coming to grips with the distance thing, it looks on the screen of the controller that you are closer, im piloting it. Because of the wind and so many kiters out , i was hesitant to take it any further out than just off the shore line, next time when its just my crew there i will take it out and be on the upwind side of the action, less chance of getting a kite strike

I like the strut mount, but only if the waves are kind of big and only for stills. Otherwise it's not too great. I just got a "grill mount" after doing lots of helmet cam but sick of the helmet. I like that with the grill mount I can take it out and point it at my buddies, or fold it and tuck it into my wet suit top if I don't want to use it. I got a little armband coil leash for it, works pretty good. I have a session so it's really light and feels fine to ride with.

The still do make it look great. Is the video footage otherwise too unsteady due to the kite movement/rotation? Which grill mount did you get? The Pro Standard one?

Hi Kajo, the mount mount works really well (apart from the dribble!!!).
I grabbed a GoPro Hero5 Session with the mouth mount and added a halyard.
The first thing I did was soak the mount piece in my favourite cordial to improve the overall taste (I hate rubber :-)).
I set it up so I can kite with it hanging around my neck on the halyard, and then jam it in my mount and activate when I want to film something. The single button activation makes this all really easy.
I also found no issues getting decent footage but had to watch how high I raised my forward arm. Got a few Arnold Bicep shots (lol).

I think that for wave riding there is just way too much kite movement, I can watch it ok, but non-kiters might get dizzy... I got the pro standard grill mount and after I heated it up and molded it it fit so perfect. Doesn't take much effort at all to hold it in your mouth with a gopro session + floaty.
