We have see a few changes over the past couple of years with respect to kites and accessories. Anyone game to predict how the sport/ kites and equipment will change over the next decade?

A few of my thoughts.

A shift from a mainstream sport back to a fringe sport.

Sponsorship to significantly decrease with only the top 5 brands sponsoring only a handful of riders

Additional strut-less kites to enter the market place. Dracon fabrics to increase their strength and decrease weight by 30%

Foiling (roller skating) to increase in popularity, same as wave riding. (as a % of total kiters)

95% people will only have a 2 kite quiver, and only usually ride 1 kite.

Cabrinha will have 9 different bars to choose from. North will still have shocking graphics & Slingshot will make a Fuel that hasn't changed since 2009.

Brands to move to a 2 year cycle of updating gear as advancements in kite tech and R&D will slowdown.

By 2025, 30% of the kite brands will no longer be in business.

By 2025 when you tell a hot chick at the pub you kite surf, she will roll her eyes. Much like the way we think of windsurfers now!

If you tell anybody that you kitesurf, windsurf, or paraglide they will tell you how they did that off the beach at Koh Samui just before they had a massage, got their hair braided, and got a tribal tatt that got infected.

We will no longer have kites at the ends of our lines, they will be replaced by quadcopters.
The sea will be littered with drones that have crashed into other drones or run out of battery while filming chop boarders doing awesome handel-less passes.

There will be a new competitive form of kiting.... destruction derby.

10 kiters start off in a designated area, and they need to smash each others kites out of the sky, or cut each others lines.

Kites will be allowed a set number of modifications such as razor lines, spikes on leading edge etc

Oh and there will only be about 1 billion humans left after a big ass nuclear war

In 2025 Underoath will still be wishing he hadn't left WA

Gero will still be Gero and hopefully the mid-north coast is unchanged.

Kite equipment will become mandatory, all Kite Surfers will be forced to wear safety equipment before kiting by Austrlian law: life vests, full helmet bubble, floaties, flare gun, shark spray, impact pants, impact vest, UV industrial sunglasses, wrist guards and only bright pink or orange wetsuits for visibility. Unable to breed, they will slowly die off, or get into Pokemon go... Same thing...

Kitesurfing no longer exists in 2025.

The Department of Public Safety terminated kitesurfing in 2020.

The Government introduced a buy-back scheme and crushed all the gear.

Owners of Cabrinha equipment received nothing.

I reckon ultra light kites that fly in light wind with the speed and power of a small kite in strong winds. Maybe a hybrid of a foil and inflatable like a full semi rigid one piece wing that flies super fast with a massive wind range.

Also kite surfboards with the light weight and feel of a standard fiberglass but totally indestructible.

Drone surfing is definitely on the way, Not sure if that's a good thing though

All Kites will be made in sweatshops in Australia where labor is cheap and sold back to china.

Not to derail the thread, but you consider kiteboarding to be a mainstream sport? I live in a pretty beachy town in Florida and still have to explain to most people that what I do is neither windsurfing nor parasailing. Guess it's different in straya. Hell, I was on the news and under my name they subtitled me as "Expert Windsurfer"

I think that probably has more to do with the fact that you are surrounded by americans than it does with kitesurfing not being a mainstream sport.

kitesurfing will be one of those sports that you used to do on the ocean, but in 2025 due to the pollution and a shark population explosion is more popular as a historical sport played on a virtual gaming platform with pokemon's to capture.

All the tards trying to milk a dollar from, or a career out of kitesurfing will finally realise failure, go back to school or find a real job and stop bull****ting themselves and everyone else.

One line kites that fly in no wind. Cab will bring out a bar that does'nt need a kite. Foiling is replaced by the Hoover board. The chicken loop will be replaced with a cock ring.
