After one of the local boys made a simple slider box out of an old table and a bit of pvc pipe about 2m in length.
The idea of making an pvc rail that is about 4-5m in length that is easy assembled and disassembled and can be transported with ease came into my mind today.

I was thinking for the rail its self some 150mm dia PVC that is 4m in total length but with a join mid way. In on of the sections I was going to put a bend of about 30 deg in it so that it can run into the water.

For the legs I was thinking 100mm Pvc maybe 3 or 4 of them at different heights so you can increase the angle.

The legs will be hit into the sand with a sledge hammer and a bit of wood on top.

I was also thinking of cutting a hole with a hole saw on the underneath side of the pipe for the legs to fit into, with a securing pin of some sort to stop it popping out.

See my quality attached diagram.

Does anyone have a better idea? or some other designs.
Or if anyone has tried this?

Yeah mate. Good plans. To connect the legs to the top though, buy some "t" section and cut the top in half so it cradles the pipe if that makes sense

Hi mate I have built a few and rode a few more . pipe is the easiest to build and transport. But can be difficult to hit. A wedge slider works well but can be pretty heavy when constructed well. Will dig some photos out of the ones built at altona over the last couple of years

Also, are you in Melbourne? We are getting a group together to all pitch in a few bucks and make a half decent rail if your interested.

We made one similiar in townsville ages ago. It worked well, however wasn't the most stable. They are ok, easyish to build/packup and transport.

After a few sessions we attached it to a wood frame to keep it more stable.

This is the business!

Transporting & finding a place to store them however is a real SOB

Keen for a melbourne rail, what are you doing for storage?
Sunniboy point henry would be perfect for that set up ;)
All I can say is I made one over summer out of old plastic windsurfers and length is key, otherwise it just ends up being a bonk instead of a slider.
If only 4m long forget the bend and just make it a straight wedge so you can hit it like a kicker as well
Hope that helps, finish it before the next big northerly please

Someone build one on a pontoon with an outboard and launch it at a ramp and set a couple of anchors

Heres the slider we built, looks ridiculous out of the water but does the trick in the water. all pulls apart and the legs stack on each other so it can be a 1 car setup. Needs an anchor setup above 20kts though.

Kickers almost there but I need some motivation to get it finished.

This was our rail we made out of and old waterman pipe. Same design but we used pine as the stakes. I would love to use this kitesurfing but our tides are way too big.

hey mate, trust me on this, if you build a 4 meter slider, you are instantly going to regret making it so short. If you have ever been to a cable park, most of the rails there are about 12-20 meters long, and the 12m ones feel pretty short! when you are building it you will think its massive, then, pop it in the water, and you will barely be on it before you are off it again... Id suggest at least 8 meters long if you are going to build a simple incline or flat bar, and if its going to be an up-ramp to a flat section (like some above) dont make the up section too steep, or you will just jump over the whole flat section.

With PVC at least you can always just add to it, but maybe putting two 4m sections together would be a good start, thats how I have built a pvc rail before.

Here's 2 of the kickers we built.

Hella Yella & Black Betty

Was great, used to stash 1 of them in the sanddunes and pull them down to play. Until we found caught some random a$$h#%@ who was going down with a screwdriving, and pulling it apart piece by piece, said he thought it was driftwood...

We used big foam pieces to float them.

Like ewan said 4m is way too short.
We have one at the shop if you want to try it!

That kicker made out of plastic pallets is the best thing I've ever seen...

As for a simple rail my suggestion is to find to 200mm PVC pipe (or larger) at a minimum of 6m in length. If you find this then all you need is 2 100mm lengths to make legs with, it's very simple just drill holes to fit the 100mm into the bottom of the bigger pipe and you are done.

You can see this in action in this vid. It was the easiest and probably the most fun of all of the rails to hit. We could have had it setup in a better location though, that's why there isn't too much footage of it.

That's perfect!
so glad I've waited before going into production.
