Looks like an awsome day, what was it blowing?
My bad didnt read the text, too busy looking at the sweet pics
Who would red thumb any of the comments on this thread? (So far)
Just watch the red thumbs on this comment!
Why the red thumbs ???I greened it..
Probably cos at a classic surf break 4-6ft is the hawaiian (back of wave) measurement and that means = about 15ft faces.
"6ft Cloudbreak" to a surfer means pretty fkn serious conditions, not "head high on the good ones"
So the title is a bit of a misnomer. And NO I am not having a shot at Adam just explaining why SOME may have redthumbed.
looks good... how many kiters usually out on a day like the pics above???
there was 5 of us was a crowd !

Measuring the back of the face is retarded! What idiot came up with that measurement?
Anyway. I prefer to measure in headheights. Makes more sense to me. Is the face as big as me? well then its head height.
Lame comment Plummet! Measurement comes from swell size, and the faces vary depending on reef and the way waves drain. People who are serious about swell study the conditions long before the actual waves hit the shores. if you want to measure the faces, go for your life...but to call it lame is, well, I will say no more.
I have been out at Cloudbreak many times, from 4 foot to 15 to 20 (according to Shane Dorian who is pretty good at measuring waves) and I can say that you can be sure that 6 foot Cloudbreak is not like your local at 6 foot.

Well you can measure swell before it becomes a wave if you like. Or measure that back of the face if you like. But why? your not riding the back of the face and if you ride the swells its only to get to the face. Why the hell not measure what you are riding?
Somebody smoking too much drugs came up with the back of the wave measurement when he was off his face....
Here is a topic that explains the history re measuring wave size I posted about 4 years ago. Basically years ago it was face size. This changed with an agreement between surfers & lifeguards in Hawaii to back of wave, which underestimated size, keeping surfers and crowds from the North shore. It then reverted back to face size after litigation, that held the lifeguards and city council liable after some accidents in the shorey.

btw. Those waves look great to kite. I just got back from Indo, and while the surf pumped the whole time, it wasn't a great trip wind wise.

An interesting read and I have to say. Still completely retarded. Selfish local surfers wanting to hog the waves themselves invent an underestimating system to keep others away.
PS I agree those are nice looking waves.
