Jen was going to give organising this a go, however she's indicated that she bitten off a bit more than she could chew. (Fully understandable)

What she has really highlighted though, is that we don't need the fanciest wave state titles in order to have one. So if anyone else is keen to put in some effort and get this off the ground, please let NSWKBA know as we are would love to see this happen. Happy to keep it very ad-hoc and informal.

Thanks
Jono

Personally speaking, I like to see a state wave event. I am also sure that quite a few guys from the Illawarra would be of the same opinion. Choosing a site would be critical, where did Jen have in mind???

Employing the services of a local tourism office has proven to be a key to success in quite a few events I see around my area.

My 2 cents worth anyway.

Id' be keen to help organise but i also want to compete, and the two dont always work well.

I know it woulds be a home court advantage but cronulla/wanda is a great location.

Always has some kind of wave, plenty of wind and places for people to stay.

what more do you want

So who has done it before and what needs to happen to get the ball rolling?

Yes having somebody organise something where they can make some money or get something back in return for the effort is a good way to make something happen.

A lot of people jump up and down and get Jealous when somebody is making money but the cold hard facts are you can only achieve so much with volunteers and it is usually one or two doing the majority of the workload and it takes a special person with some spare time on their hands to take it on

And unfortunately with kitesurfing you can put in all that hard work but you cant organise the wind to turn up at the event

If the wind was more reliable I reckon we would have more success with events in our state with sponsors and organisers more willing to help out

Kite Racing has regular events going on in at least four states with the majority run by a commercial entity such as kitepower in Sydney or sailing clubs such as Brighton and Sandringham in Melbourne, but is also lucky they have a bigger wind range being able to use 17m kites and run in less than 12knots

Most other sports also have clubs that orgainse events with volunteers of the club pitching in, but kiting has no such structure at a local level and is a bunch of individuals doing their thing, perhaps if the freestylers could organise the wave event and the wave guys could return the favour and organise a freestyle event something might get off the ground

i dunno how much more reliable you need, anywhere south of botany is pretty much guaranteed wind.

its rare that its not.
