Hi, i just got myself some kitesurfing equipment after moving to australia, have about a years experience doing it in Bermuda, but left and had to sell my stuff so glad to get back in the game!

anyways looking at the forecast for this weekend, looks about 16 knots is that enough for my 12m down at Dee Why? dont want to get the bus all the way there and find the place deserted and unable to get out on the water.... i live in manly if any other kitesurfers live close please get in touch. my number is 0479035796, will be much appreciated.

thanks

Gary

incase anyone has the same issues as me I went to collaroy beach and found a couple of guys out, wind was barely enough for the 12m, but got out there on a few decent runs.

whenever my kite dropped out the sky though those waves were unforgivable!!

(also apparantly some guy saw, and jumped over, a breaching whale!)

As you probably found out - Dee why is not suitable for kiting.
Narrabeen is good on a Nth easter, and Long reef, just up from Dee why for S.

I've spotted wales a few times in Narrabeen.

ps - if you prefer flat water, and more consistent conditions - Botany bay is better.
Not sure where you are based.

Also because of light winds, my kite fell off of the sky many times, so it broke. :((((

would love flatter waters but im based in manly, without my own transport so fairly restricted......

on sunday it cost $40 just to get to a taxi to collaroy, so took a bus (well 2 actually) back despite being really tired, cold, etc!

will look at getting a scooter maybe, then venture down to botany bay. which direction does the wind have to be for it to be good there? SE? plus where do you launch from, brighton-le-sands area?

thanks

Gary

Hey Gary, Botany works well with any easterly, with kiters spreading along from Brighton to Dolls Point. Just make sure you don't go closer to the airport than the white Novotel, the area is prohibited for kites. Check http://www.nswkba.com.au/locations/sydney for more details!
Good luck for the (long) trip from Manly, probably meet you there soon!

I probably wouldn't bother if they're tiny perforations. keep an eye on them of course, but the nature of the rip-stop material should stop them getting much bigger. I got plenty of pin holes in my kites

re: pin holes - better to fix them now, then let them expand/tear. 2 ways to do this. the first is to use a good sail tape, and patch BOTH sides. clean the surface with alcohol wipes (or similar) as the edges of the tape tend to peel back.
the second is to get some kitefix glue and spread a small, thin layer over the pin hole.

There are 2 kite shops I know of on the northern beaches, 1 in Collaroy (where I'm based) and 1 in Narrabeen I think, not been to that one myself.

I'm off work at the moment and am still finding my feet with kiteboarding so would be happy to join forces when the wind picks up (also only have a 12m for now). Drop me a note on cunningpete75@gmail.com and I might even be persuaded to give you a lift....

Hi Gary,

feel free to hit me up with any questions regarding conditions or repairs. My email andrius@balmoralboards.com.au, or call 99708600. My shop's at Narrabeen, and I kite a lot at Narrabeen and Collaroy. Cheers, Andrius

Heh Garysayers, try Whitworths at Warringah Mall, get some spinnaker repair tape, they do a few colours. Put a piece on both sides of the hole, should hold it for a while.
