Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to discuss/froth on upcoming sessions, talk new spots for different wind conditions or to hook up with a new kiting crew.
Post up your plans, pics or after kite stories...
This weekend is all about making the most of this weekend's gnarly conditions.
Friday and Saturday are forecast to be 20-35kn S/SW with a big southerly swell. Windang or Bawley (would be crazy) are my plans.
Windang or up that way for my Friday afternoon, 4 hours of work left...
Hopefully find some cross-shore waves.
Have a good weekend everyone!
I think it's spelled "gnarly" as in - "shred the gnar", or - "You cannot repel gnar of this gnarliness".
Cant travel too far the next few days - moving home. So am hoping my local Deewhy will handle the SW. Hoping for more of a SSW, today and tomorrow.
Forecast looks gnarly, indeed!
Check the south NSW coast... 22ft waves....!
This arvo was nuts at Windang.
Super up and down wind, cross-off and swinging offshore.
Waves were big and clean. To put a number on it 6ft+.
My kite stayed dry and only lost the board once from way out the back.
Copped a whoppa on the head body dragging back in. Photo captured that moment, will post it up tomoz.
All up a gusty half hour in nice waves, well worth it.
Was a shame not to see anyone else out...
Got out at Peggie's. Very gusty which made it frustrating. Waves were big but with the west in it made them hard to stay on. Got out for bout an hour. Still better then sitting on the couch
1330 - 1530 at Deewhy. Gusty as a Mexican after a double Tacobell session. Lost my board a dozen times, got knocked by a big wave once, got lofted and spun big time once, crawled out with my tail between my legs. Had fun!
More of the same tomorrow, hopefully with less gusts...
S-SE forecast for tomorrow.
I think I might know of one spot which might fire tomorrow.
I'll report back tomorrow night with pics.
A couple from yesterday taken by Mini. Cheers for the pics man.
My board got washed in so I had to body drag through the impact zone. Copped a big one on the head... lol.
Was a really nice day, shame it was soo gusty and offshore though.
Hey Surfingboye nice shots (by mini) wild session, whats your approach for getting through the big ones on the head?
just try and keep sine'ing the kite to keep the lines tight...
if you drop the kite in surf like that your in trouble, i would completely release and swim like hell. otherwise you would get dragged and your kite would get minced.
Ha ha nice !!! That last shot is an absolute ripper!!!!! Only one word going through the mind at a time like that "F@@K". Looks like you got a good session in.
Wooah...! I would've shat myself right there. That's a big one barreling down on you, damn!
Did you try to duck dive under it, and then send the kite to pull you out the back? Scary one, amazing pic too.
Hey SB,
Not a bad idea about a new thread, or maybe social media to chat re where/who and whatever is going on with kitesurfing in our area.
Some of our locations only take a few kiters out to be crowded, so not 100% keen to have "more" MF er's in the hood. So to speak.
Remember, we don't have a 7 mile beach. LOL.
That session on Friday was nuts.
The wave in the photo was number 3 of a monster 4 wave set. Still can't believe you kept your kite flying.
Everytime I look at that photo now I just crack up.........
i wonder if it will come through?
BOM was forecasting 25knts for me this arvo but still nothing more than a fart.
hopefully it stays for a late arvo sesh...
anyone going out today in wollongong? im not heaps confident in the ocean yet so waiten for it to go more south then im out there prob corrimal
Looks like its dropping. 11kn at 8am. Was nice and windy during the night though! Grrrr.... In my business suit instead of my wetsuit, heading to work. Bummer.
Hey SSmatt,
Not much swell with this change so this is a good chance to hit the ocean. Try northside Towradgi as you can use the rocks as a buffer (ie,no waves).
All other spots north have rocks as an issue. Otherwise, there is a nice beginner location toward Shellharbour, and it does like s-sw. I don't wanna get offside by saying where it is on a forum. it's easy to find.
Wind is expected to peak around midday to 1.00pm. 20 kts apparently.
cheers tony, i was surfin out corrimal just then and it just went south, ran home to get my gear going out now cheers!
Any1 headin out tomorrow wind finder say 40km southerly by lunch. Ill be out at corrimal at 1:30 afta work if its on
mATT
Somewhere between shoally heads and windang for me. Not much swell around down here today, hopefully it builds tonight/tomorrow a little?
Today was a bit of a fizzer... Spent the arvo at the skate park instead...
Not looking to crash hot up here at the moment dudes... Might head to the gym for a bit and cross my fingers..
Hey SSMatt, heard me mate Mitch was on hand to assist last week.
Yesterday's wind was a funky one. Blew its guts out up north of you (my way) but heard it was quite good up in Cronulla where Leo was.
No swell at all. Wonder how Surf boy went??
