hi just wondering if anyone has kitesurfed on lake keepit north of tamworth. i checked the nsw spot guide nothing inland at all. just curious as to if its possible etc any site rules never seen the lake so might just be mud for all i know so any information greatly appreciated.
Not sure about kiting the lake, haven't even been out there for a look yet. But I would be interested to know if it is a viable option or waste of time.
Let us know how you go.
Watch out for trees and don't land on any snags. I took this photo at Lake Benanee on the way home from South Australia. Brought a smile to my face.
Koz,
I was out at Manilla learning to paraglide back in December and drove out to check it as an option for when its too windy for flying. Its a big enough body of water and looks like it could be a decent spot, but my guess is its likely to be gusty/turbulent due to the hills around it. South to South east or straight northerlies are my guess for wind direction. Anything west would probably be super turbulent due to the hill right next to it. I never saw it windy enough so this is just a best guess based on the topography around the lake.
Also asked around and no-one had heard of people kiting on it. Ill be interested to hear how you go with it so keep us posted.
Cheers
unfortunately the weather finally turned on. after being here for a few weeks so ive only been flying over it rather then kiteing it >_< but hay it doesnt look to bad from 3km up
Was out there on the weekend camping. On Sunday the wind picked up there, and would think it would be kiteable. Is it worth the effort, I am not to sure. The wind seemed pretty consistent and not to gusty considering how far inland.
Very big open space, but not sure how often it actually gets windy out there! May have just been lucky on the Sunday.
Was back up at Manilla over the last two weeks. Kited both Lake Keepit and Split Rock Dam, with frontal conditions. Keepit was definitely the better of the two being more open but both were gusty and Split Rock was turbulent at times. Breeze never lasted long enough for a full day session and only got a couple of hours in, so if its Windy get down there asap or you'll likely miss out. Both had fun flat water with light chop for playing about in and were surprisingly shallow for the most part (waist to chest deep).
Was good to get out on the kite while there was no flying to be had, but conditions were nothing to get super excited about. Ill be taking my kites again next time i go up just in case.
