Ive always had an issue with my Naish Cartel harness , the chicken loop is releasing from the spreader bar when I'm just riding along.Today it happened twice within half an hour, both times having to self rescue but the second time the kite was all tangled up and even tho first safety was released the kite went into a dozen death loops. To add to the drama i was on my mates kite so no way in hell i was going to pull second safety .Didnt have to in the end cause safety leash ripped from my harness and the kite flew into the distance.Was lucky some nice guys rescued it on the beach tho.
Anyone else had this releasing drama before?
I have plenty of tension in the lines so can't be that…. wasn't that gusty …was on my 10m in 26-30 knots…wasn't fully de-powered either. Didnt feel over powered at any time. Kite was flying at 9o'clock .
Need a new harness either way so ill soon see if was me or not.
A 10 m in 25+ knots ?? You must have a short or non existent donkeys dick with your chicken loop - How else could you becoming unhooked?
Yeah I'm 100kg so can use my 12m up 25knots easy.
Have been reading up re the length of donkey dicks..seems some people extend them. I would say it's my north rebel dicks but it also happened on my mates 2014 best kite so can't blame that.
It's not like I'm leaning forward when it happens,I'm leaning back into the harness.Would call myself an intermediate rider but this is making me feel like a learner all over again.
Got a pic of your setup with the chicken loop and donkey dick attached? If it's happening with different bars you would have to say there is something amiss with the hook. I've never had a North bar unplug me but I have had a Blade bar do it to me fairly regularly, funnily enough I was using a Cartel harness (2011 or 2012 model) at the time. I put it down to the cord in the chicken loop stretching too much under significant load but really I never knew for sure.
Definitely no issue with the length of the donkey dick in terms of being too short. I wonder if it's an issue of it being too long. The only way I can imagine that coming off is if your lines went slack with the dick pressing against the hook plate, when it goes taught again if the chicken loop has risen up the dick it could potentially bend the dick down and outwards allowing the chicken loop to come off. Maybe try bending the dick up so it sits above the hook, it looks like it's long enough to stay there. All pure speculation though.
If you've got a spare Dakine or other hook I'd put that on first, if you or your mates don't have one handy the kite shops will no doubt have a heap in their bargain bit bucket.
The tip of that hook has been pulled out too far , that would be causing the problem . The tip of the hook should be parallel with the main bar . A bit of heat might help to bend it back to its original shape
A soft easy to bend dick like's to release itself mostly when the chicken loop looses tension with the spreader bar hook . Like just after you crash a kite on the water.
A good hard stiff dick loves staying in its hole if you know what I mean !!
Cheers for all your help guys, Brought a new mystic majestic harness today. The hook looks heaps better.Process of elimination anyway haha,will soon see.
