Hi all,

I'm still learning here. Am riding upwind and carving turns. Some days I lose a heap of ground and I'm not sure if I'm just over powered or losing my edge or both. Anyone have some tips for edging is super choppy conditions? Currently riding a Code v1 138. Was also out in about 18knots and changed from my 12m to 10m and it was so slow to react in certain positions I guess? On the change of direction even with full steer it wouldn't budge much. I was almost full stopping and water starting again. Any advice ?

cheers

Ride as SLOW as possible with heavy back foot pressure. Shift your upper body towards the back leg to increase the back foot pressure. It's all about finding that limit, too much edging, pointing the board too much upwind or with too slow of speed, you will stop and sink. Too little edging, board pointing a little too much downwind or too much speed, you will go too fast and lose ground. It can take a couple of years of practice to find that optimal stance and speed in various conditions to get the best upwind angle possible, so don't expect to get instant results by trying to change your technique.

On the change of direction even with full steer it wouldn't budge much. I was almost full stopping and water starting again.

Most likely due to a back-stalling kite. Make sure your lines are perfectly tuned www.kitebud.com.au/kitesurfing-online-courses/kitesurfing-line-tuning/

Otherwise, just avoid pulling the bar too far in when riding in lighter winds.

hope this helps

Why model of kite are they? Some older ones are very different.

Hey Sam,

Some great advice from others here already.

What size bar are you using on your larger kites? Too small a bar will cause very slow reactions in the larger kites.

As an example Ozone have 3 main bar sizes, 45cm, 50cm and 55cm. The 45cm bar in my experience is almost unusable on 10m kites and above. If you're not sure of your bar length measure it from steering line to steering line and don't include the bar ends

Thanks Tom,

I'm using a 45cm with 23m lines for all my kites (10m, 12m and 14m) Came with a 14m I bought.

Usually seems good with the 14, sluggish but I assumed that's kite size?

They're pretty old versions, not sure the year. Ozone Reo 12m (green red and black), Ozone Catalyst 10m (green yellow black) and the 14m Enduro v2.

Using 45cm and 23m lines.

Im fairly certain age of gear may be holding me back but dang I cannot afford anything else.

Do yourself a favour and try out a 50cm or 55cm bar, I think you'll be surprised of the difference. I genuinely couldn't use our 45cm bar on anything bigger than a 10 and even the 10 would be not so much fun to fly at that.
