I just changed from 2:1 to 1:1 for the first time ever today after learning on 2:1 and all I have to say is OMFG! Who the hell designed 2:1? And why!?!?!
I got blisters on my hands from riding 2:1 over a few weeks and my arm muscles are all cooked! I had so much more power on the 1:1 today compared to the 2:1... I would literally just dive the kite and I'm up, but in the 2:1 I had to swing it from 3'oclock to 9oclock or loop it hard to really get going. I would say 1:1 gave me about 30-40% more power than 2:1.
Ridiculous nonsense! It is as bad as the invention of the square wheel!
nice that you're learning to kite
but wtf
wat? wtf doesn't answer my question? Why does this thing exist?
I had it on a 2006 cab crossbow.
But from 2007 I don't think they did 2to1 anymore.
It must be an old bar.
Pretty sure 2 to 1 had more throw.
More de power at the bar.

Ooohh, it adds more depower! That is why i felt so over powered when I switched over. This means I can take my 10m kite out in 25-30knt winds if I rig it up 2:1 and fully depower it.
What does throw mean? is it this?
If you are getting blisters on your hands, try wearing fingerless gloves.
Also, a fannypack will help because you will be able to keep carbo shots and other high performance potions in it similar to those of a triathlete etc

No, not really.
It depends on wind strength and it's a great way to reduce chances of you choking your kite in light winds.
I have an old Naish Boxer SLE 15m kite with the 2:1 pulley bar system, and I am able to kite in just over 10knots (there is a video of me doing just that on utube somewhere).
Mowing the lawn of course. Nothing else. And hardly any upwind. But it beats not being out there!
I guess the extra pulling power which is meant to double with the 2:1 system, is that I can sine the kite faster through the window generating more apparent wind. On the 1:1 setting, I hardly have any control of the kite.
