Hi,

I recently purchased a Naish Torch 2012, had my first flight today :-). The kite has a lot of power compared to my 2012 Griffin TRX, but for some reason it kept stalling!!!

Is there anything I can do in terms of set up to stop this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advice :-)

ps. still fairly new to kiting to don't know all the ins and outs.

... check the lines! I suspect the front lines have stretched. Quick way to check is see if the kite behaves better if you depower it.

Wind strength and size, generally beginners choke the kite, close the face of the kite by adjusting the lines, a torch needs to be activly flown it's not a great starter kite but it'll improve your flying skills

Thanks All....In order to fix the issue should I try to extending the back lines? Or shorten the front lines with the adjustment strap?

Start off by trimming the strap in but your better off going to your local kiteshop and getting it tuned properly. The front lines have stretched.

Slide your bar floats up the back line and adjust the lines via the 3 knots under the floats.
Bring them up one knot further from the bar and see how it goes.

Regardless of line adjustment a lot of those new to the sport tend to over sheet their kites. Depending on the kite this can result in the kite "stalling", dropping back in the window and losing power. Try letting the bar out a little bit to see if the kite powers back up, can seem a bit counter intuitive at first as you will tend to want to sheet in harder when you lose power....

Thanks guys....The loss of power and stalling occurs only when I'm on the outside of the wind window, I have extend the outside line which has improved performance but still getting some stalling. The wind was fairly light yesterday.

Smithy ill try to release the bar when cutting inside next time I'm out.

Do you use the right bar with it? You need a 5th line bar with a rather high Y. Naish Shift line Bar works best but North also fits. You also need to set up the 5 the line properly. It is stopped at the lower end of the Y and there should be a couple of knots on the nose line coming from the LE. When the Bar is fully powered (open adjuster, bar down at the QR) the nose line should be only under slight tension or very slightly slack.

Shouldn't the bar just be tuned properly ???? as in equal front and rear line lengths ? Adjusting line lengths willy nilly just doesn't sit well with me :-( and then if the kite is still stalling then its another problem??

... oh and another one is make sure the kite is inflated properly, from memory the Torch has a fairly thin leading edge and therefore can suffer from under-inflation.

Light wind will definantly back stall any kite.I usually fly the vegas which is similar to the torch.i dont think they are grunty kites being a c kite and to an inexperienced kiter in light wind this will make you want to pull the bar and choke the kite.if you have tried the tuning mentioned above and make sure your using the 5 line bar.if its still stalling try pulling your middle lines when it back stalls with your hand.this a simple light wind technique.
