Has anyone used the 2014 Cabrinha overdrive bar with an older Carbrinha IDS kite? I have heard it is not supposed to fly as well but wanted to get an opinion of someone who has tried it. I have a 2009 8m Switchblade which works fine but the bar is getting on a bit so wanted to know how it would work with a 2014 Overdrive bar.

I have used my overdrive bar on my old switchblades ( 2009 and 2010 ) The kite flew fine. You may have an issue in that the IDS flag-out line will not work. but they have enough depower at the bar that you can ride them suicide anyway. The 2006 07 08 never had IDS and they were considered a safe kite.

I too am keen to know if people have tried 2014/15 X1 bars on the older IDS kites, particularly how well the single front flagging line works with the IDS.

I have a couple of 2011 switchblades that have canopies in almost perfect condition but lines, etc that are well worn. The cost to replace the lines, safety line, bungee, depower strap etc is 3/4 the cost of a whole new bar. Not interested in theory, I can do that myself, keen to hear experiences....

You can use the 2014 and 2015 bars on previous years kites fine but not the other way round.

Smithy, No problem using the Cabrinha 2015 X1 45cm (or 2014) bar on a 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Cabrinha IDS kite. The small draw back with using the 2015 bar is that this new bar flags the kite out on only one front line allowing the kite to pull more than when the IDS bar is used to flag out the kite. If you do a lot of self landings using the IDS system, then you will miss the ease when going to the newer 2014 or 2015 bar. The new 2015 x1 is a super polished bar. The other slight difference you will notice when using a 2015 bar is that the "throw" you have before having the bar reaching the spring is less. The lines used from 2013 onwards IMO are a huge plus and well worth upgrading to.

Thanks guys, yes I already have a 45cm fixed length 2015 X1 bar on my new 2015 10m switchy I wasn't keen on the adjustable version, no real reason just my preference, and agree the quality is second to none. I have just picked up a 55cm 2015 X1 for my 2011 12m. I self launch and land 90% of the time due to where I live. When self landing I typically just grab a few handfuls of the centre lines and take a few steps up wind etc. I have never used the QR IDS for self landing. I use the same method on the new 2015 switchy which works fine.
