Anyone able to compare the Ozone Reo vs. the Noise Pro (not the older version)?
Would be keen to hear views, especially if you've ridden them in a similar size (noting that the '12 & '13 Reo's were a little undersized).
I ride a surfboard in waves (strapped & unstrapped). Thx
Colin,
I have had the noise pros since october and they are a great wave kite, was on Religons for 3 years prior and did demo the Reo a few times last year , both good kites , the pro suits me better in the surf , and despite some coments from otheres does free ride reasonbly well , but excells in the waves.
Haveing surfed for 40 years the pro lets you kite into the waves then forget it untill your finished riding the wave until your ready to use it again , it drifts that well.
Try both and grab what suits you .
Thanks, that's helpful. In your opinion, does one kite turn quicker than the other? I rode the Reo and found it very responsive and very smooth. Haven't been able to demo a Noise as yet...
The noise pro turns about the same , saying that only rode the reo one about 5 times, the pro has good feel as is direct fix steering lines.
Colin Have you tryed the 2014 Reo,s ??? the 2013 did feel 1 m less But this year they feel like the size stated I used 10m Rebel 90% last year and My 10 m Reo has just as mutch power but more stable and a s*** load of drift" Love it "
I have Reo's ( for years) and recently Noise.
Totally different kites.
To be honest it's like comparing apples v's oranges..
Both work very well, actually incredibly well.
Yes Reo's are fast in the window but Noise are very smooth.
Please try for yourself and make your own evaluation..
My 2 cents:
I agree with Tony, Noise Pro was very smooth in power compared to the reo... Like a switchblade pull....
...But very slow turning for me when compared to the Reo...
Drift on both kites very good! But looping the kite especially in onshore stuff, cant beat the reo I think...
I've Only Tested the 8m Noise Pro in Onshore Sloppy 2ft Beach Break.
Much Preferred my 8m Reo 2012 over the Noise Pro...
Also the Bar on the Noise Pro made a squeaky sound in use...
And I thought when turning the kite and pushing out the bar at once, seemed to have a bit of friction between the Main Depower PU Tubing and the hole in the bar... Maybe the hole needs to be bigger!
Loved the soft bar ends though!!! Hopefully Ozone will release them with their next bar!
Also much preffered my Reo In Deflating and Packing up...
Try both if you can! I almost got a Noise Pro but will much prefer Putting my hard earned towards having a full quiver of Reos Now!
What about the sizing is still holding true the 8m Noise Pro = the 10m Reo.
BWS used to have a comment on the early Noise model saying buy a size down from what you currently ride but can't find that remark for the new Pro.
The published Pro size guide to wind range looks like it still the case. Yes?.
We've a craka weekend of wind....
If anything the new reo is as powerful or more than the equivalent size pro from my rides on them. Both kites are different to previous years.
According to the bws team and from what I have experienced with my 10 m pro the sizing is now pretty accurate as opposed to the old noise's which were a lot bigger than the number on the side
So I finally go to try a Noise Pro today... got out on the 12m with a surfboard in wind ranging 14-18 knots and small crappy waves. My thoughts:
- well built kite, like the simple colour scheme and lack of graphics
- solid but simple bar with a very comfy grip. Could use a better swivel to avoid line twist, but not a bit issue
- don't like the fact there is no ability to fine tune the kite with different pigtail knots (suppose I can swap them out or tie new ones)
- wish BWS had a wide mouth inflation system... I can pump my 15m LF Envy in half the time it took to pump up the BWS 12m
- very smooth power delivery and reasonably quick turning for a 12m (felt slower than a comparable sized Reo, but not bad)
- pivots off the wing tip and doesn't shoot across the window like my RPMs
- very stable feel, didn't require much rider input to keep it flying down the line. barely looked at the kite once I got a feel for it
- didn't generate as much apparent wind as the Reo (logical given it's a little slower so you can't sine it as quickly)
- given its not as zippy, I think I could ride the 12m Reo in lighter winds than the 12m Noise Pro
- waves were ** today, so I couldn't really test the drift, but it felt pretty good
- super easy to self launch and land
- minor point, but wish they put the kite size on the wing tip so you can tell what others are riding when you rock up at the beach
Overall, a very smooth reliable wave kite but not as quick as the Reo. Reading back through everyone's comments, they all sound consistent with what I felt today (and when I last rode a Reo). Having come off RPMs, the Reo feels much closer to what I'm used to, but both are good kites.
Would be fun to ride the smaller sized Reos and Noise Pros back to back for a proper test...
I have a Reo 2012 12 meter and a BWS 6 meter 2012- I am happy with both kites but to label the BWS Kite 6 meter when is a 8 meter has put me off to buy another BWS. I had to buy another kite for the 30 plus winds that sometime we have when the frontal weather rolls in. Like last Sunday I was on a 5 meter kite.
Castiillojf,
You will find the new BWS pros the correct size , the older BWS were over size the new ones are accurate, im 75 kg and ride my 6 well over 30 knots with ease.
Colin ,
Good review , try the smaller Pros and Reos if you get the chance, i have a 12 but try and not use to much , i ride my 10 with a surfboard as low as 18 knots easily.
The 6/8/and 10 pros to me fly and ride better than the 12 , could be just i hate larger kitesafter after living in Wa for 25 years , now back in Qld need the 12 some times.
