Hi Guys,

I am from the UK and visiting SA for a couple of weeks and am looking to get a bit of kitesurfing in where possible. We are heading down to Kangaroo Island tomorrow for 3 days and I was hoping someone here could give me some recommendations for good kitesurfing spots on the Island.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
DG.

havent been kiting there before but there is a nice beach called island beach near american river that looks ok, however i believe that it may only work on a northerly other than that there are a few locals who do it off kingscote i believe

Thanks for the reply Sully. Sounds like the winds are going to be mainly from the SW but I will check out the spots and see if they are useable. If not I will check out the south coast and see what I can find.

Both Eastern and Western Coves can work between Penneshaw and Kingscote, just a matter of finding suitable access for the wind angle (Brownlow can work if not too sheltered).
South Coast for surf, Vivonne Bay. Just respect the local surf crew if you go there...

Thanks Chap, wind wasn’t all that favorable other than on Saturday where it was blowing around 15knts (gusting up to about 22knts). I was on a trip with my Bro and his in-laws so couldn’t go check out all the spots but did manage to get down to Vivonne Bay on the south coast and Snelling beach on the north. Both looked good with Snelling probably working best with a N through to a W and Vivonne with a S to a SE. Unfortunately both spots lacked wind when I was there.

I did manage to get out on Sat at Emu Bay, Liquidchild that was me you saw, I was sailing with a Naish Cult. Emu Bay is a good beach but as the wind was from the NW the headland made it pretty gusty and hard work. I reckon this beach would be very good with clean air from a Northerly.

Only a few days left now before returning to snowy UK :0( Hopefully there will be some wind over the next couple of days, if so I might head over to Larks bay for a final session in the sun.

Good feed back DG. Emu, Stokes and Snellings are all pretty good in winter with decent breaks on a good northerly, but tough this time of year.
Good luck for the rest of your trip.
