no kitesurfing near any airports.

tell them they are probably causeing tiger air jets to cancel take offs costing tens of thousands of dollers. also federal police will nab them eventually.

Kited there successfully today. Ok it was very light and there were two foilers that tangled their kites at sea and one had a long swim to Kirra but there were high fives at the end. Back to the topic, in the good ol' litigious USA that would have been verbotten and we would have all potentially been arrested by the fun police under an FAR prohibiting flying kites within 5nm of an airport. Didnt see any aircraft doing a go around due to my 2m high jumps or a foil soaring at altitude at 1.2 metres. Thankfully CASA has no such rule. Risk analysis question? Kite flying or DJPhantom flying near an airport, which is more dangerous?

Hi GCWA and CASA and AFP, promise we are not being ****wits and kiting in the only place we definitely should be avoiding.

It's hard to make out but looks like the obstruction limit elevation is 40m where it crosses the water on the NE'ly approach. Given some people fly with 27m lines plus the kite, then throw in a jump. It could be pretty close. To me anywhere NW of the southern edge of the NE small plane runway looks to be no go.

depends who you are. i have seen billob's boosts, regardless of airport nearby or not billob regularly enters official airspace. You are right kernal there are a few govt bodys who do word searches on the seabreeze forums (outside of work hours) in between ashley maddison. Casa have even been known to reply to the odd topic or 2 with some really usefull advice

billob go for it mate, just take out one of those aeroplane radios if you boost and get that feeling its a good one where a gust lofts you just radio 'manned kite entering gold coast airspace next few seconds - minutes if you have an ozone edge'. The pilots will steer well clear of your kite with their auto pilot detection systems, they have great respect for kitesurfers and consider us to be the real pilots

They regularly send airport security to ask people not to fly on the beach. They have stated to us before that they dont care about when your in the water. Generally they cant see us from the tower unless you static launch on the beach. They see you quick then as the beach is quite high at ballinga. South goldie already want us banned. Lets not push our limits guys.

Ken9 how many times do I have to tell you to say it right.... read below:

Gold Coast Traffic
Tethered Kite
Operating 820m North East of Coolangatta Airport, no higher than 130ft for the next few seconds,
Gold Coast Traffic

actually maybe 130ft is a bit Generous for you...

Anyway, since you me and Billob are qualified RPA pilots we could technically apply to CASA for an excemption around the GC airport following a risk assessment and presentation of a safety case. I think they would take us completely seriously .

Edit: Ok it's official kirra now belongs to myself Ken9 and Billob. It is illegal to fly there for anyone else. Good day.

I spoke to my counterparts and they are OK with us kiting at Kirra but stay clear from north of North Kirra *exceptions apply to those with special clearance.

Hi Billob,

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding restrict activity areas in the ocean area adjacent to Coolangatta Airport.
We have assessed your application for exemption and have granted this on the condition of limiting your launch height for 'backrolling' I believe you called it. This must stay below 100ft.
We did, however, have larger concerns with the size of the splash from descending kitesurfers flying 'Ozone' kites that have been observed by low flying aircraft around Vicky Point. The size of these impact splashes would be very detrimental to aircraft flight around the airport. Please ensure this person doesn't kite within this area.
In addition, at this point in time, we are unaware of any large-scale, oval race tracks that are going to implemented in the surrounding areas, as shown in the picture above.

Be safe in the sky
