Hi Aneta,

I took kite lessons 1.5 years ago in Denmark (where I'm from) but never really got out on my own. I just moved to Sydney and I'm planning to start again. Where do you take lessons?

This Thursday looks to be a nice day to practice. If anyone is interested let's meet up on the beach at the end of Monterey St. near Ramsgate - 2pm onwards.

Peter

Hows is the surf at Cronulla? Not too much for beginners?

It's not the best spot for beginners (in saying that all spots have their pros and cons). The surf isn't really the issue unless it's pumping and lets be honest that doesn't happen all that much at cronulla . If you can stay upwind and don't mind a bit of chop then it's a great spot.

When the wind is NE it tends to get very gusty and can get very tricky. On a southerly the wind is good and steady, however it is usually stronger than a NE so generally smaller kites.

The only other thing to watch out for there is the Flags which don't take up very much space and the people which in summer can be too much for a kite to navigate, launch land etc.

Great spot with a great crew of people there, everyone willing to help each other out as well.

Hi Guys,

I'm also new and would like to have someone to practice. I was thinking of booking a lesson at Old Bar. Do you think it's a cool spot?? Botany bay lessons seemed a bit pricey. Anyone keen practicing, let me know.

Monterey Beach is probably the best spot for beginners. With decent wind around there is almost always someone there - introduce yourself and away we go

There's a deal on living social at the moment for 3hr lesson there with boat for $149 (rrp $300) Doesn't include wetsuit or booties which they seem to require so that's an extra $45 to hire, but not a bad deal for a beginner i reckon. Thinking of taking it myself...

In my opinion 3hrs in one hit on the water is a lot for a beginer. A guess it depends on your stamina but i would recommend breaking up your lessons into 2hr slots.

2hrs on the beach and in water practicing boddy dragging.

Then 2hrs in the water trying to stand up on the board.

Also if you are totaly new to this then get a practice kite 2-2.5m and just learn to fly it this will save you $$$ when you start your lesson.
