Anyone heading out tomorrow arvo? I'm planning on checking out a few spots around 2-230ish.. maybe Hollywood's then dolls
I'm heading out. Will probably end up at Kurnell as I think there's more chance of there being enough wind out there, but I'll go via first carpark just in case.I have a suspicion that I'm being a little optimistic...
I'll be out, not sure where yet.
Any guys heading out this weekend? I'm new to kiting, so keen to check out the local conditions and get some tips.
I'm happy to watch/help with launches etc.
I've recently had some lessons in Bali and loved it. I was consistently kiting upwind by the last session, so keen to get my own gear now and hit the water. But the winter breezes look abit dodgy, so keen to watch some beginners in action so I can avoid learning the "hard" way!
Cheers,
Tav
Tav,
Welcome to Sydney kiting bro! Yes the winter is a bit less consistent than the summer. The winds are often pretty gusty and aren't as predictable. If you need any help with gear selection or just want some more info on the area feel free to drop into Kitepower down in Sans Souci and I'd be happy to run you through the paces.
Cheers,
E
Hi Guys
I've just bought my kite surfing kit and keen to head out to Botany Bay. I've had a few lessons but none in Sydney so could anyone let me know where in Botany Bay is good for a beginner i.e. flat and not busy? Also any recommended websites to get the weather forecast? Also if anyone wants to meet up that would be great.
Cheers
Dave
It's going to be hard at this time of year due to the gusty winds. On the plus side, the beaches are much quieter!
Kurnell might be your best bet - cross shore on a westerly. Don't go there if the wind is coming from the south at all as it'll be offshore.
If the wind is southerly, try Doll's point (lots of beach, but lots of yachts and currents in the channel), or further up the beach. Don't get too close to the airport!
In summer, the beaches at ramsgate all work well in the afternoon Noreasters.

Learning to kite in the winter here is dangerous, so stay safe. Keep an eye on the weather, don't go out if it's too gusty, don't go out if the wind is directly onshore (or even slightly offshore), don't go out if you're tired/sick, body drag a kitelength or two away from the shore so that if you go flying up you (and your kite) will land in the water, make sure there are other kiters around, talk to them, make sure they're on kites the same size or larger than yours...
Good luck!

Hi Dave, I have just bought my kitesurfing kit as well I would be keen to do a couple sessions with you in the right conditions. So we can help each other. (PM me if you want)
I went to Yarra bay on Sunday (a very conservative start in 8-10knots), as expected it was hard getting started and keeping the kite up with such light wind and being a "noob" but I had a Starboard Go, sailboard which I was able to used and it got me going a couple times before either running out of water or dropping the kite and drifting back to the beach.
Beach was very quite, played with a trainer kite for a while once I gave up on the light breaze
The wind was "good" for a conservative start to get a feel for the kite, started SW which is a good direction for Yarra bay then went S (still ok) and then SSE which makes it a bit sheltered.
Cheers,
Tav
fingers crossed but the forecast is looking pretty good for this weekend NE, I'll probably go to Kurnell Saturday and/or Sunday.. anyone keen to join let me know.
Cheers,

I've also just bought my kit and had a few lessons outside Sydney and was keen to get going out on Botany Bay. I have a constantly changing work schedule so can head out on both weekdays and weekends depending on when I'm working - would be great to have a few other beginner buddies to potter around with.
Hi guys, I'm Tyrone new to kiteboarding. Would love to be part of your Kiteboarder's network? Ill take lessons within the next month, and keen to catch up with fellow newbies for advice and hanging out at the beach for great days kiting? I have equipment already (idiot I hear you say). Ill be a Botany today Tuesday 23rd to wash equipment and have a practice fly, come say hi if anyone is in the area? Cheers
Im a relative newbie and just returned from overseas so am keen to get out on the water and meet new people. At the moment just about any day suits as work schedule is non existent which is good.. Andrew
