Hi All,
are there any good flat water spots around Mandurah ?
I'm normally a wave rider but haven't kited for a loooong time so just looking for a safe spot to test everything out before I hit the ocean.
Cheers.
The estuary in Mandurah is probably your only option : www.kitebud.com.au/locations/mandurah-the-estuary/
As you can see it works best in E so SE winds (usually morning land breezes). Can be light and gusty but a nice safe spot to practice.
I'd recommend booties to protect your feet.
Also think about getting some lessons to refresh your safety skills, board recovery, etc.

we used to go down to the cut
on the seabreeze
that was 10-15yrears ago, not sure what is like now, there was a beach facing east
crabs were feisty at times :-)
Yeah good luck!
Lots of crabs, Lots of cobblers (a nasty fish with poisonous barbs on its fins, trust me you don't want to stand one one.) then there are the stingrays, if you manage to stay away from them there are also few sharks. oh and that's before I get to the mouthy locals.
The wind is flucky and generally about 6kts less than Safety Bay but much more gusty. most of the possible launching spots the beaches face the wrong way.
But they say you can find the best Meth in WA down there

And downwinder through the bird sanctuary, ah good times... i think that would be a sketchy run now
what they said above plus.... you need to make sure there's a really good blow up and down the coast.
The large estuary really hampers the breeze 'Infill'. If you watch the graphs, you get that initial change and breeze comes in, then it more than often backs off as the breeze hits the still cold dense air above the estuary water. Sometimes it can then have a resurgence, but mostly not.
She also swings quite a bit from the arc: south to SW to even WSW - even on one tack due to this uneven heating.
...and if you go on the ocean, beware she seems to always swing south the south east quite early on - not many times you can be out to the sunsets like elsewhere. 430/5ish (sometime a tad later) she starts the offshore march.
But when its good, its good, but its no nearly as consistent as say from rocko' to the north. We get dupped by the wind a LOT of times.
