Hi crew,
Just out if interest I'm wondering what the general
experience of a windy season for all over WA was this summer? I'm hearing mixed reviews, but general consensus is a pretty poor season. Some even calling it the worst ever....
Up here in Exmouth we experienced an amazing start to the season with quality wind from September until about Late December, not gangbuster strong but consistent most days. January onwards has been
by far the worst 2-3 months I've experienced in my 10
years up here.
Interested to hear others interpretations on this summer ??
Yep, I think anyone in Perth would agree that it was one of the worst seasons in a while. Looking back at my stats, we did have some below average seasons back in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. Back in 2010 I just moved to Perth and thought that getting 100 days of sea breezes in a single summer was pretty awesome
This season started with one of the best Months of October I've seen but then for each month after that we had 1.5 to 2 weeks of off-shore winds.
This season, if you take out the sub 18 knots days you'd probably end up with around only 85-90 days of strong sea breeze winds which is pretty bad.
We can only hope that next season will be a better one!

Yep, quite ordinary.. unless you were in Augusta! It possibly had its most consistent and strong south easterly regime that I can ever remember. It started in November and did not stop! Weeks and weeks on end of screaming south East winds late into the night! Just like the good old days!! ??????

And sharks !!!
It's the worst season I can remember, and I can't remember back to 2010-2011. Just so glad I took up winging for something different to do. Plenty of trips to Augusta but alas I don't rate it highly. But hey gotta go where's there is wind I suppose. Maybe a bit of a blow today... marginal but desperate.
Been some great days, but having the ozone edge 13 makes those 15-20 days a tonne of fun on the twinny.

I took a trip to MR mainbreak over christmas and I noticed the wind was more SE than SSE or S which would be normal, if you know what I mean . It was solid 20-25knots, small swell. Launch was difficult through the keyhole until you realise the angle and coming in was worse, kite fell out of the sky due to the cliffs. Some crew were tacking up wind and coming in around southsides over the shallow reef (hard on the feet holding kite in 25kn gusts on sharp reef). Out in the lineup it was tacking hard into the wind to get down the waves, but otherwise business as usual.
Otherwise it was a good season to take up wing foiling . Perfect 15-20knots days, even with a lot of SE days in the River.
