A friend of mine had the same idea - I think it would be an interesting challenge but tricky in 2 days. Its about 120km as the crow flies, probably 135km following the coastline.

With the right wind you can probably sustain 10-12km/hr downwind. That means you would need to be kiting for 13hrs or more. To do it in 2 days you would need 6.5hrs of wind > 20kn on both days, which you are unlikely to get this late in the season.

Anyone who has done Perth to Lancelin care to comment?

easily possible in a day, I did the Dongara to Geraldton downwinder which is roughly 60k's. All done and dusted in about 2 hours. Unsupported, solo, spur of the moment trip, wouldn't think twice about the perth to lanno run. I was strapless on a SB, found my front foot got sore from rubbing on the deckpad, if was gong again for a longer distance i would wear booties to look after my sensitive feet.

I did realise that our Swiss friend was just looking for a lift but the massive downwinder is a much more interesting topic ....

Austin: 60km in 2hrs - average speed of 30km/hr relative to the beach. Must have had a decent wind! I was guesstimating max 10km/hr on the basis of shorter runs I have done between floreat and scarbs, in various conditions.

At 30km/hr downwind perth to lano would definitely be do-able in a day ... Surely someone here has tried it?

Yep putting it bluntly i was Fanging it, no swell and a solid 22knots on an 8m, flat chat all the way. very SW facing coast so little actual kite flying. Eyed the horizon and went out to see to adjust my course so that i took a direct route, was so so so glad to see the lighthouse in the distance on the last stretch!
