Love to be able to connect with Guy Keon who was the founder of the great Cavalier 37. He had a boat called Caviar which is back in Melbourne now called By Order Of Secretary .
Would the real Caviar please stand up!
I can help out a little bit, I'm Guys son. Caviar, Guy's boat was indeed @ abouts 83. he had the 26, the 975 then the 28 and lastly the 37. He sold Cavalier in 85-86. Caviar was sold in the very early 90s and went to Melbourne. I beleive she competed in the Melbourne Osaka race a few times.
Guy is still religiously sailing every Tuesday and we're about to celebrate his 80th birthday.
PM me your email and I'll pass it on. His memory by his own accounts is hit and miss so I can't promise too much but he has fond memories of Caviar. FWIW i know she did at least 1 Syd to Hob, I think she may have a Pittwater to Coffs as well.
BTW the teak cockpit sole and combing was required to cover scorch marks from a wayward rocket flare on New Year's Eve. The flare had been fired plus numerous others from the biggest gin palace you've seen and it was under parachute heading for the companionway when my brother saved the boat and probably our lives because he punched it out of the cabin it then landed in the cockpit he and Guy then scrambled together to pick it up and throw it overboard where it continued to burn for another 5secs. In the fraccas it clipped the combing adding another scorch. The shooter was apologetic and paid up for the repairs. The teak looked so good it was included on subsequent boats.
Hi, we are the current owners of Guy Keon's Caviar and currently sail it out of Middle Harbour, Sydney. Recently met Guy's daughter who sent pictures of Caviar to her father.
Some very sad news for our family.
Guy Keon passed away on Friday 1st February 2019, he was 80. He was still sailing as regularly as his health permitted out of the CYCA. He's survived by 6 kids and 14 grandchildren. And too many boats to count!
The Cav 28's are still an active association and regularly racing. He will also be remembered as the builder of Kay Cottee's First Lady which is on permanent display at the Australian Maritime Museum.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday 12th followed by a wake at the CYCA, fittingly Tuesday's were his sailing day.
He sailed away peacefully from us after a bit of bad weather and will be hugely missed.
Hello Slammin
My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
I hope everyone is coping as well as they can in these sad circumstances.
Kindest regards
Tracey
Hi Sam,
So sorry to hear the news and please accept my sympathy.
I wasn't lucky enough to meet Guy but as a boat builder and sailor I appreciate his legacy to the industry in this country. Not many can say they have one of their vessels on permanent display in a National Maritime Museum.
My Cav 28 gives me so much joy.
Fair winds and calm seas Guy Keon.
Best wishes Dave
My sympathies slammin, his yachting legacy amongst other fond memories I'm sure, is something to be very proud of,
kind regards
my condolences to you as well Slammin.
we have had a Cav 32 in our family for many years, and still think they are a fine looking boat from any angle.
Fair winds on Tuesday.
Deano
