Have installed a new diesel dual lever control as below. Morse cables for gear and throttle set up properly - correct throws. Works ok but each lever does not work independently as expected. I have tightened it up so there is no axial (lateral boat direction) play in the main spindle system - there is a bit of lateral play at each lever top of handle. So I can work it ok but need one hand to secure first lever and second hand to move the second. A bit unexpected. Assume others have this type (RWB part) - is yours working ok with each lever independently able to be moved without moving the other? maybe I have the axial securing nut done up too tight - but easing this would cause more lateral slop. I am aware of single lever and push button types but at twice the price. Thanks a lot in advance.
Is it designed like that by any chance? ie. You push the red lever which I assume is throttle forward to motor ahead and the mechanism automatically puts you into forward gear?
Like alot of things you buy these days, although they may look like the object you require, they don't function like the object you require.
If it were mine I would get it into the shed and look at fitting some spring loaded detents if it doesn't already have some, along with maybe some low friction washers or thrust bearings and bushings. In other words I'd probably just rebuild it.
If it does have detents,,check to see if they are engaging properly

The longer lever has detents so I have assumed that is for the gear shift, the shorter for the throttle. These detents appear to be engaging properly but imho are not all that "solid" - maybe needs stronger springs as you infer. Had to change the two activation brackets on the inside of the boat end of the spindles 180deg so that fwd pushing of the levers put it into fwd gear and increased revs. Unit on stbd cockpit side. See photos below - imho it is well made. Believe the washers are low enough friction. I don't think the design intent is to automatically go into fwd gear with fwd push - believe the 2 levers are supposed to work independently. Yes that cruisersforum issue is similar but bit different design unit. I will leave it for the moment till I get the upgraded diesel re-commissioned in next week or so - then decide if I take it all out and bring back to the shed and try and sort it - working on it on board is not easy. Sydney rain and wind has cost a lot of lost days on the mooring.
R, i bought that identical unit more than 10 years ago, it was one of the 1st things I changed on the spray. The very next thing I did was pull it apart and mount the leavers separately. Ok leavers but ordinary mechanism to be polite. Will post a pick soon.
