I'm reconditioning my Jabsco electric head, I cleaned it all up and fitted the kit today and got everything back together. Before I reinstall, I'll fit a new waste pipe back to the holding tank as it's old and stinky. From what I've gleaned on seabreeze and elsewhere online, I understand that the compounds used in the hose are a little permeable, therefore slowly absorbing and eventually transmitting odour.
Has any one had any luck solving this with a coating, on the outside of the hose, of any kind? I imagine if one could find a waterproof coating that remained flexible (so it doesn't crack), it would extend the working life of the hose, and remain stink free for much longer?
I found this product that looks interesting, anyone used it for anything? (available at Bunnings for $15 for a spray can).

What do you think?
For marine head problems I would suggest a search on the PBO forums. The Poms really seem to be into that sort of stuff. There is a woman in Britain running a company specializing in marine heads and is a real authority on that stuff. Unfortunately I can't think of her name at the moment.

What I've read lately urine is 95% water
So I've been thinking of fitting a unisex urinal in my little boat
Direct to the sea
Them making a compost toilet for the balance

Ooh, unless it's mounted amidships, what fun on the correct tack, and what a cold wet bum on the wrong tack!
Good quality marine sanitry hose will last years and not smell. Don't buy the cheap stuff from Whitworths etc. I recommend Alfa Gomma brand, I used to sell it and it's top notch. Do a google search for a local seller
I was looking in the Ikea catalogue
And thought this hanging storage would be good for fresh fruit and the odd fresh veggies
Hi Rumblefish, not seeing Alfagomma sanitary hose locally. I'm in Tas, do you know who keeps it? Also Brierley has a Mako brand hose with a 10 year odor free guarantee, do you know anything about that? $27 per metre.

Hi 2bish
For what it is worth I have had the Mako 38MM on my boat on the discharge side for the past 3 years and it seems to work ok
It has a fairly thick wall and is quite stiff so it needs reasonably gentle bends but the shipwright how i got the bit off i used said it can be heated to make it a bit more pliable
I don't have a vented loop on the discharge side to stop it sinking because i wanted to keep the discharge side as short as possible but I always make sure the sea cocks are closed unless using the toilet
Regards Don
When you finally decide what to buy make sure it is not heavily ribbed on the inside. Some of them are. (F$%k nose why) And even when they are heated (with a hot air blower) before fitting they do not seal very well.
I would advice heating the hose when fitting and getting the hose clamps on before it cools.

To ensure that stuff seals I always smear some silastic around the nozzle before sliding the hose on. It also lubricates it.
When the dunny is not going to be in use, pump a few buckets of fresh water through it with a little toilet cleaner in it to stop the dead seawater odor
Hi
I recently installed a holding tank, and used 38mm sanitary hose from whitworths, cost $50 odd per metre!
However, it doesn't smell and was reasonably easy to install.
Have also used the ridiculously expensive wc hose from Witworths, (they have two wc hoses, the basic one and the good stuff) lucky it was only a short length required. It is apparently totally non-permeable. I found it very easy to work with.
Hose from RTM is cheaper.
