I think some people on here known of or have sailed on this boat. Some bad news on FB
Wonder why it went aground? Rig, keel and rudder seem intact. Perhaps a propulsion issue?
The rudder looks in better shape than when my brother ran over a sunfish on Madmans Woodyard and broke it off. We then had to go 50 miles to Eden before a southerly came in. Only 3 of us could steer her. The only Hobart I ever did - and I didn't make it. She had a problem of breaking things in the late 80s, mast in 1986 or so.
I guess she has gone up in size - a sunfish in 1987 and now a whale. But that is a bit of time in between drinks. It would be good to know more.
Was just the guy and his dog aboard.
Maybe worried he was going to sink and drove the old girl ashore to get off safely?
Woodyard back in the day.
Back then you could still take young kids offshore.
Future Global Ocean Race winner on his first ocean race and a supermaxi crew on his second, are the 2 in the front of the boat if I remember correctly.
I think I may have ended up with that kite, but she may have had several ones with similar colour schemes.
According to posts on Moreton Bay Cruisers, she has been towed off the beach...not sure whether that means out to sea or sculldragged onto a truck.
Apparently, insurance has provisionally written her off.
