Hi guys I have a quick question.
I have a roberts spray 40 it's a steel hull it has had a few patches below the waterline. My question is, is it possible to cut away most of the hull below the water line and replace it I plan on keeping the boat, I know it's a big job I am a boilermaker welder I'd like to know if anyone has done this and if there is a slipway somewhere on the mid north coast that I could do this at..
Thanks in advance

Being a boilermaker you're probably better placed to make that call than most on here. My 2bobs worth is it's very possible,if you want do the job. I know the steel spray construction well I have the 33'.don't know the slips on the mid north coast but the Harwood slip on the Clarence river would fit the bill, its industrial

I think it would be better to go straight to the hard. You might end up tying up the slip for a long period. Several steel yachts I know went on the hard for 3 months and ended up being there 3 years.

Precisely why I suggested Harwood, there's a generous handstand & as they build ships all the infrastructure is available, abrasive blasting, cranes, forklift, etc

Definitely go Harwood. It's just up the road from me and I'm familiar with it. Lots of expertise. Bit grotty but way better option than Yamba marina or Clarence Fisheries at Iluka. It could be worth networking a few trawler guys up river too. They crane out boats in random locations along the river just past maclaen

Given your skills that's exactly what you want to do. No use doing patchwork repairs. Cut out plates and replace them.

Don't forget to replace the annodes while you are there.

I'm pretty sure this is the same book as I have except softcover looks different to my hardcover edition. Unfortunately burried now in a storage shed.

Really worth buying. Author is a realist who doesn't complicate anything. Neither is he a fatalist.. Totally what you need.

Here also is the best product I discovered when I owned my steel boat. Works 10? better. Owner of the company is also really helpful.
