I spent two years research and spoke to builders all over the world to build the toughest, comfortable and yet still quick 40'ftr boat I could find.
Why wouldn't it survive a 400nm attempt?
I was thinking that the flat bottom of the boat might slam too much in a sea state that is conducive to record breaking runs and cause structural damage. Personally I would be very happy to be wrong in this case, I just love things that go fast. Did you happen to watch that little vid clip, notice the speed?

Hi loose, yep, close hauled upwind under short sharp heavy seas she'll slam for sure, uncomfortable but it can handle the pounding.
I don't understand South, why? It's built for short handed passage making, those conditions should be ideal??
How fast this thing goes upwind in 40 TWS is just insane for a 40 footer.
VMG through the roof and 110% of the polars from the factory.
Far more impressive than the downhill speed.
Anyone not cruising on of these things needs to get one.
Old cruising is dead.
I'm just saying It looks heaps of fun?
2 meter chop in a bay .
In a real gale in a real ocean it wouldn't be safe to fly a hankicheff in that flat bottom girl with 40 to 50 knots! unless your French!
It is not flat when heeled and the boat sure doesn't go with no heel.
That was real revelation, how much heel equals no slam.
Sure you will slam, everything will but this a very different.
Try it!

That is why you are getting a fantastic pay off with Fusion. I am sure she will handle whatever you ask of her.
Even Joe Adams said that the faster a yacht hull is, the safer it is. If I was in the chips I would have a Pogo 12.5 before a Benny or Jenny any day of the week.
Re the yacht in LCs post doing 27.8 knots. If it is the one I am thinking about it is an alloy built bare shell with just enough fit out for the couple that sail her to be comfortable and has a ketch or schooner rig so as to reduce the size of individual sails to make it easier to handle.
It was specifically designed and built to be a fast passage maker easily handled by the elderly couple that sail her. Below the deck house where they live is a bare shell except for engine, fuel and water tanks. No guest cabins, no luxury saloon, not even any lining.
Quite a brilliant concept really if you want to make fast passages.
Don't have any doubts Shaggy. You have got the right boat for what you want to do. Lydia obviously knows and nobodies opinion is relevant until they have experienced sailing on her. Speaking of which, when is it my turn????

i agree though i love heavy displacement for cruising as there ability to carry payload doesn't slow them down when a ton of supplies are on board i think the pogo style flat bottom rolled chine shape is far superior for light payload racer cruiser and i predict a movement toward this style of hull by the production boat builders as people come to realize the advantages still would not want to be on board one when a front comes through on the way to Hobart
BRIS-VEGAS!!
Oh Dear. The pile berths at the Gardens are not one of Brisbane's most attractive features.
So while you are there, if you want a great night out with food, drinks and great music, go to the Brisbane Jazz Club which is just next to the ferry landing at the Story Bridge. You can just about see it from where you are.

Great shot of Brisvegas. On the Pogo argument. I'd have one in a heartbeat.

So would I but I would settle for a friend who owns one and takes me sailing with him.
Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. A nod is as good as a wink to a blind man.
Hi Cisco,
If you can tear yourself away from those sunny climes, you are always welcome.
We were heading out on Sunday as the forecast looks magnificent and I was going to pm Now and Zen to come out whilst he is visiting, but now I have to work all this weekend....grrrrrr.
Sat out a bit of a rolly night with 8 other yachts at Double Island Point waiting for the tide to get over Wide Bay Bar this morning.
Out of 9 yachts here, 6 are catamarans - I bet they didn't roll as much as me for most of the night!
Hhhmmmppphhh Shaggybaxter....where was my invite hahahaha???
Well done, my friend
Hi Selkie,
We had 8 on board today so sorry mate!
It was a good day, this is the first time we've had the gennaker up in decent breezes.
It made a difference

Hi Shaggy
I noticed in your video that you boom bag was hanging down and looked a bit untidy
On the boat i race on we release the lazy jacks, pull them forward (so that they don't interfere with the shape of the sail when it it bagged out) and roll the bag up on itself on each side of the boom and put some velcro straps around the bag and the boom to keep everything tidy as shown in the photo
Not sure whether you are interested in doing this but we find it reduces the amount of loose stuff hanging off the boom
Regards Don
I do like your yacht shaggy however I'm happy to just cruise at 6 to 7 in 10 to 12 knots upwind with the Cat Myself and a leg of lamb sizzling away in the oven! We don't like getting all wet!

Hi Don,
I agree, normally its tucked in and stays in, Sunday was like it was hoovered out, so I think I might tie them in!
