My thoughts are with everyone on the island, hoping family & friends are safe
Devastating to see the reports of what has happened

For perspective, the hotel industry on Maui and the Big Island (Waikoloa village was evacuated) have not offered to put up locals that have been evacuated. In fact they have pointed to the fact that the occupancy rate is very high for the first time since COVID and locals that have lost everything could pay for rooms, all beyond reach for the average punter.
Many working people over here do it tough, so, if you have ever enjoyed these islands, choosing a reputable charity and donating little will help.
This disaster recovery will be a marathon, not a sprint.

Malama is required.
